Medaille College Captures 2012 ECAC South Men's Volleyball Championship

STEVENSON, MD - The #11 Medaille men's volleyball team captured
their first ECAC South Championship ever and just the second ECAC
title for any Medaille program as they beat Stevenson (3-1);
(25-16, 27-25, 24-26, 25-21) in the semifinal then outlasted #4
Juniata (3-2); (25-18, 22-25, 18-25, 25-23, 15-13) in the title
game.
Senior Nick
Johnson earned Tournament Most Outstanding Player
honors with his tremendous play. In the semifinal Johnson
pounded down (13) kills and was remarkable in the Championship game
as he finished with a match high (24) kills while hitting at a
(.474) clip. He had four digs in each game as well.
In the semifinal win sophomore Trevor
Barrett had a strong performance with a match high
(17) kills while contributing with (10) kills as well. Also
playing well was Erin
Kelly who finished that match with (15) kills and
(5) blocks. Guiding the Medaille offense into the title match
was David
Riggsby who posted a team best (36) assists.
On the defensive side Brandon
Kilijanski led the way with (17) digs.
In the Championship games the Mavs earned the first set win before
perennial national power Juniata would take stes two and
three. The Mavs didn't fold as they evened the match at two
games apiece with a two point win to set up a dramatic fifth set
victory. Johnson was awesome in the win but had help from
Kelly who registered (17) more kills while hitting with tremendous
accuracy at (.483). Riggsby once again paced the Mavs with
(32) assists while Zack
Beattie dug up a team high (9) balls
and Jordan
James led the Mavs with (5) blocks.
The Mavs finish the 2012 season with a tremendous record of (25-9)
record.
