ECAC Announces Corvias Football Players of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Football Players of the Week for the week ending Oct. 23.
 
DIVISION II
Offensive Player of the Week
Patrick O’Brien – UNC Pembroke, Sr., QB
 
O’Brien threw for 383 yards, four touchdowns in UNC Pembroke’s Homecoming win over Catawba. The senior also rushed six times for 13 yards and completed passes to eight different receivers. His four touchdown passes were for 18, 44, 55 and 57 yards.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Matthew Gawlik – Gannon University, Sr., DE
 
Gawlik recorded 10 tackles, three tackles for a loss and two sacks last Saturday at No. 8 California (Pa.). He entered Gannon's all-time top 10 with 15.5 career sacks. The senior was consistent throughout the game with four tackles during the second quarter, two in the third and three in the fourth.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week
Matt Davis – UNC Pembroke, Sr., Place Kicker/Punter
 
Davis was seven-for-seven on placekicking duties going five-for-five on extra point attempts and two-for-two on field goals. He kicked field goals of 34 and 53 yards. The senior also recorded an average of 44 yards on five punts including two 50+-yard punts pinning Catawba inside the 20-yard line on twice. His eight kickoffs averaged 63 yards with five resulting in touchbacks.
 
Rookie of the Week
Andrew Berger – Gannon University, R-Fr., DE
 
Berger recorded six tackles last Saturday at No. 8 California (Pa.), including two via the solo variety. He entered the game with nine tackles during the first seven games, before setting a career-high with six. Berger opened the game on fire with three tackles during the opening 15 minutes which featured no scoring by either team. Three of his stops resulted in a one-yard gain or no gain.
 
 
DIVISION III - NORTH
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Quron Wright – Framingham State, So., RB
 
Wright rushed for 175 yards on 22 carries with four touchdowns in the Rams’ 41-7 win over Plymouth State. He averaged 8.0-yards a carry with a long of 56 and recorded 5-, 1-, 56- and 7-yard touchdown runs in the victory.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Skyler Williamson – St. Lawrence University, Jr., LB
 
Williamson led the Saints' defense with 20 tackles (7 solo), 1.5 for loss and a sack. He was named St. Lawrence's game MVP for the Hoffman Cup game.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week
Rio Schmidt – Hobart College, Jr., P
 
Schmidt took over the Liberty League lead in punting with a strong leg against Springfield on Saturday. He averaged 44.6 yards-per-punt on five attempts in the 12-7 victory. Schmidt boomed a 51-yard punt on his first try and capped the day by tying the Hobart record for longest punt, launching a 68-yarder that died at the Springfield two. Schmidt is averaging a league best 40.5 yards per punt.
 
Rookie of the Week
Adam Wojenski – Framingham State, Fr., QB
 
Wojenski completed 15-of-22 passes (68.2%) for 168 yards with two touchdowns in the Rams’ 41-7 win over Plymouth State. Completed touchdown passes of 24 and 11 yards in the win.
 
DIVISION III - SOUTH
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Nick Savant – Muhlenberg College, Jr., RB
 
Savant set a school single-game rushing record with 277 yards on 24 carries in the Mules' 56-17 victory against Juniata. He scored four times on rushes of eight, nine, 30, and 61 yards, tying another program game mark.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Ben Robinson – Wesley College, Sr., LB
 
Robinson helped Wesley remain tied for first-place in the conference with a key 24-17 NJAC road win at Rowan. In Wesley’s fourth straight victory, he tallied a team-high 12 tackles, including nine solo stops. He also notched 3.5 tackles for a loss, an interception, and a pass defended to help his squad remain tied for the conference lead.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week
Kyle Dickerson – Albright College, So., WR
 
Dickerson returned three punts for 84 yards in a 69-13 win over Wilkes. Most notably, the sophomore returned one punt 71 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter to push the Lions’ lead to 34-6. Less than three minutes later, Dickerson caught a 38-yard touchdown pass. He finished the game with 132 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns.
 
Rookie of the Week
Aaron Nelson – Wesley College, Fr., K
 
Nelson played a key role in Wesley’s 24-17 NJAC road win at Rowan. Kicking in extreme wind conditions on a day in which field position was key, he kicked off four times, pinning Rowan deep in its own territory after each kickoff. He finished the game by averaging 62.5 yards-per-kickoff with one touchback.
