ECAC Announces Corvias Men's Soccer Players of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Men’s Soccer Players of the Week for the week ending Oct. 23.
 
 
DIVISION II
Offensive Player of the Week
Hamza Mourchid – Gannon University, Sr., F
 
Mourchid scored a hat trick in a 3-0 victory over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday. He tallied his first goal of the match in the 37th minute and in the 76th minute. In the 87th minute Mourchid finished off his hat trick with a successful penalty kick. The senior is 7-8 on penalty kicks this season. The goal was Mourchid's 20th of the year.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Jorge Hernandez – Gannon University, Jr., GK
 
Hernandez pitched his third shutout of the season on Saturday at Pitt-Johnstown. He recorded eight saves and extended his goalie record to 9-3-1. The No. 24-ranked Golden Knights moved to 10-4-2 and are ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings.
 
Rookie of the Week
Darren Appanah – Caldwell, Fr., F
 
Appanah recorded six points in two Caldwell wins last week. The freshman recorded an assist in in a 3-1 win over Nyack, then notched two goals and an assist in a 7-1 win over Holy Family.
 
DIVISION III - METRO
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Anthony Colofranson – Stockton University, Sr., F
 
Colofranson lifted Stockton to a pair of wins to extend a current win streak to four. He scored two goals and assisted on two others, moving into second place all-time in Osprey history with 140 career points and 59 career goals. He assisted on the game-winning goal in the Ospreys’ 2-1 nonconference win over Ursinus. Colofranson followed up by having a hand in all three goals in a 3-1 win over NJCU. He assisted the first goal, then drained the game winner and an insurance goal.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Andres Medina – Rutgers University – Newark, Fr., GK
 
Medina anchored the Scarlet Raiders to a 2-0-0 week with wins over Stevens and Montclair State. He made six saves in a 3-1 win over Stevens, and then came up with eight stops in a 1-0 shutout of the Red Hawks. The rookie is up to 15 wins on the season and has six of Newark’s 10 shutouts credited to him.
 
Rookie of the Week
Drew Enyedi – New York University, Fr.
 
Enyedi scored a pair of goals in NYU's 10-0 victory over host York College (NY) on Sunday in Brooklyn. The freshman also tallied eight shots in the win, the most by a Violet in one game this season.
 
DIVISION III – NEW ENGLAND
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Aaron Parker – Castleton University, Jr., GK
 
Parker posted three strong starts when it mattered most this week, collecting three wins and recording back-to-back shutouts on the road. The junior started his week with a win over Johnson State on the road, as he only allowed one goal. Then on the weekend, he tallied shutouts at both Husson and Maine Maritime. At Husson, he stopped three shots, including two-key saves in the waning minutes of the contest to help the Spartans win 2-0. At Maine Maritime, Parker's five-save shutout locked up the team's postseason position with a 2-0 win. On the week, he posted eight saves and allowed just one goal to earn a 0.33 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jack Kingdon – Castleton University, Fr., F
 
Kingdon elevated his game when it mattered for Castleton this past week, providing four goals and one assist for nine total points as the Spartans went 3-0 in NAC action. The rookie began his week with his first career hat-trick at Johnson State, while also tallying an assist against the Badgers for a career-high seven-point game. Against Husson, Kingdon gave Castleton a big insurance goal on the road, helping the Spartans to a 2-0 victory over the Eagles. With his Saturday goal, Kingdon reached 20 total points on the season.
 
DIVISION III – NORTH
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Nick Tata – SUNY Cortland, Sr., F
 
Tata helped lead nationally eighth-ranked Cortland to three home shutout victories last week, extending the team's winning streak to 10 games and improving to 15-2 on the season. In a 5-0 win versus Hobart on Tuesday, Tata tallied the first two goals of the game. He then assisted on the game-winning goal early in the second half as Cortland secured the SUNYAC regular-season title with a 1-0 win versus Oswego on Saturday. Tata added two more goals in a 7-0 win versus Canton on Sunday. For the week, he scored nine points on four goals, including two game winners, and one assist. He leads the Red Dragons with 24 points on a team-best 11 goals and two assists and has netted seven game-winning goals. 
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Connor Young – SUNY Cortland, Jr., GK
 
Young recorded three consecutive shutouts last week as the nationally eighth-ranked Red Dragons (15-2) clinched the SUNYAC regular-season title. He earned a 5-0 shutout versus Hobart on Tuesday. In a 1-0 victory versus Oswego on Saturday, Young made five saves. He finished off the week with three saves in a 7-0 blanking of Canton on Sunday. He extended his shutout streak to 356:00 and the shutout on Sunday was a program-record 12th of the season for Cortland. Overall, Young has posted a 10-0 record with a 0.20 GAA, 51 saves, a .962 save percentage and eight shutouts.
 
Rookie of the Week
Mattie Mrilk – Vassar College, Fr., F
 
Mrlik picked up four points on two goals in Vassar's 3-0 shutout over No. 12 Rochester on Saturday. Mrlik padded the Brewer lead (2-0) in the 68th minute. Mrlik continued to play aggressively on offense, gathering a steal on the opposite side before breaking away down the middle before scoring his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
 
DIVISION III - SOUTH
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Stephen Betteridge – Grove City College, Sr., F
 
Betteridge scored two goals and assisted on a third score Saturday in Grove City’s 4-0 Senior Day win over Thiel. Betteridge shares the team lead with 10 goals and leads the team in assists (8) and total points (28).
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Bryan Denny – Grove City College, Sr., GK
 
Denny posted two shutouts in goal last week for Grove City. Thursday, he stopped four shots in a 1-0 win at Thomas More, Grove City’s first road win over the Saints in a decade. Saturday, he stopped five shots as the Wolverines blanked Thiel, 4-0.
 
Rookie of the Week
Micha Charlick – Waynesburg University, Fr., F
Charlick notched an important insurance goal during Waynesburg’s 2-0 win over Saint Vincent last Wednesday. He found the back of the net in the 66th minute to help secure the victory.
