ECAC Announces Corvias Women's Soccer Players of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for the week ending Oct. 2.
 
 
DIVISION II
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Miranda Smith – King University, Jr., F.
 
Smith helped lead King to a Conference Carolinas win, scoring two goals and handing out two assists in a win over North Greenville. The multi-goal game marks the first of the season. Smith assisted on the first two goals to put King ahead before putting the game away with the final two goals in the second half. She leads the league with four assists and ranks third with four goals.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Alex Srolis – West Chester University, Sr., GK
 
Srolis notched a pair of wins in net for West Chester, including seven saves in a 1-0 victory over No. 20 Edinboro on Saturday. The shutout victory marks Srolis’ 30th career shutout, placing her second in the program’s history. In a win against Millersville, she registered four saves for the Golden Rams. Additionally, Srolis has posted 52 career wins, which is two away from tying a program record. Overall, she managed 11 saves to help propel the Golden Rams to an undefeated record.
 
Rookie of the Week
Taylor Lewis – Gannon University, Fr.
 
Lewis scored goals during both Gannon matches last week, extending her streak of consecutive matches with a goal to four. She gave Gannon a 1-0 lead at Slippery Rock with a goal in the 34th minute. Lewis stole the ball at midfield, dribbled through the defense and scored unassisted against the Rock. The freshman netted the middle goal during a 3-0 shutout of Shippensburg Saturday night at home. She took a pass on the right side and scored inside the far left post from 15 yards out in the 58th minute for a 2-0 lead against the Raiders. Her goal at Slippery Rock completed a run where she scored all four Gannon goals during a three-match stretch. Lewis helped Gannon extend its regular-season home win streak to 16 matches dating back to the 2014 campaign.
 
 
DIVISION III - METRO
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Destiny Pomarico – Farmingdale State College, So., MF
 
Pomarico paced the Rams to a trio of conference victories last week. She netted a goal and added an assist versus Mount Saint Vincent. Pomarico bagged two goals, including the game-winner, and an assist against Sarah Lawrence. She dished out two assists in Farmingdale State’s win over Mount Saint Mary.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Annie George – Fairleigh Dickinson University – Florham, Sr., GK.
 
George was solid in net for the Devils in a 1-1 week, making 17 saves while facing 35 shots. She was impressive in a 1-0 win over Albright, making eight saves while facing 14 shots to snap the Lions six-game winning streak. The senior followed that with a hard fought effort in a 3-2 setback to DeSales in the conference opener. George made nine save while facing 21 shots to keep the Devils in the game.
 
Rookie of the Week
Christina Gagliardi – St. Joseph’s College – Long Island, Fr., F.
 
Gagliardi contributed meaningful goals in each of the Golden Eagles’ two Skyline matches last week (1-0-1). She netted the game-winning marker in SJC’s victory at Old Westbury. Gagliardi scored the tying goal against Purchase in the 34th minute of play.
 
DIVISION III – NEW ENGLAND
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Mikaela Coady – Springfield College, Jr., M.
 
Coady helped lead Springfield College to a pair of wins this past week, as she registered all three goals for the Pride. In a 2-1 win over UMass Dartmouth, Coady notched her second and third goals of the year, before scoring in the 31st minute in a rematch of last year's NEWMAC Championship on Saturday, in which the Pride defeated Babson College, 1-0.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Angela Daigle – Husson University, Fr., GK
 
Daigle earned her first collegiate shutout win in Husson's 4-0 victory over Thomas, as she made three saves. The keeper then earned the win in a 5-2 victory over Lyndon, recording another three saves. On the week, Daigle tallied six saves, a 1.00 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.
 
Rookie of the Week
Izzy Hutnak – Castleton University, Fr., M/F
 
Hutnak had a stellar week for the Spartans, leading the team to a 2-0 mark in conference play and a 2-1 week. She posted 10 total points on four goals and two assists. In a win over Lyndon, Hutnak had a three-goal, two-assist game for a total of eight points, which included her putting her team up 2-0 with an assist and then 3-0 and 4-0 with two goals. In a victory over Green Mountain, the rookie netted one goal. Despite being shutout against No. 2-ranked Williams, Hutnak was all over the field, setting up teammates for runs deep into opponent territory. She had nine total shots on the week, six of which she put on goal. 
 
 
DIVISION III – NORTH
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Kara Shue – William Smith College, Sr., F.
 
Shue led No. 1 William Smith with six points on two goals and two assists in two shutout victories for the Herons last week. On Friday, Shue notched two goals and an assist in an 8-0 win at Skidmore. She assisted the Herons' lone goal in a 1-0 win over RPI on Saturday. Shue is now tied for the William Smith record for career assists with 40. In addition, she became the seventh Heron soccer player to reach 100 career points. Shue leads William Smith with 24 points on nine goals and six assists.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Allison Wakefield – SUNY Canton, Fr.
 
Wakefield posted three consecutive shutouts, the first of her career in a 2-0-1 week for SUNY Canton. The freshman saved all six shots she faced in a 0-0 double overtime draw with Cazenovia on Wednesday. She followed that up with one save in the first half before entering into the field in the second half and scoring her first collegiate goal in a 9-0 win on Saturday.
 
Rookie of the Week
Emily Kaplan – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Fr., F.
 
Kaplan led the Engineers to a 2-1 week, scoring two game-winning goals on a team-high seven shots (six on goal). Kaplan opened the week by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Plattsburgh, before tallying the deciding goal in RPI's 1-0 Liberty League-opening victory over RIT.
 
 
DIVISION III - SOUTH
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Meg Van de Loo – Johns Hopkins University, Sr., MF
 
Van de Loo led the Blue Jays with six points on the week. In each match, the senior put JHU on the board early. Against Stevenson, Van de Loo headed the ball off a corner kick in the 14th minute and assisted a give-and-go in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Van de Loo paced the offense yet again against Swarthmore, scoring in the fifth minute. She crossed the ball for the game-winning assist in the 64th minute. The senior leads the Centennial Conference with 23 points.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Jordyn White – Grove City College, Sr., D
 
White's work at center back helped Grove City earn two shutout victories last week. Friday, the Wolverines limited Geneva to five total shots in a 2-0 win. Wednesday, Grove City blanked Baldwin Wallace, 1-0, with White assisting the game-winning goal.
 
Rookie of the Week
Kelsey Calamaro – Chatham University, Fr., F
 
Calamaro had the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 2-1 double overtime victory over Washington & Jefferson College, converting on a corner in the 103rd minute. She also scored in the 90th minute of Monday’s 2-2 draw with Carlow.
