ECAC Announces Corvias Men's Cross Country Athletes of the Week
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Men’s Cross Country Runners of the Week for the week ending Oct. 30.
DIVISION III - METRO
Runner of the Week
Jeremy Hernandez – Ramapo College, Jr.
Hernandez ran the NJAC championship eight-kilometer course in 25:04 to successfully defend his title. The win marked the second individual victory for Hernandez on the Stockton University course this season as he won the Osprey Open earlier this year.
Rookie of the Week
Jose Figueroa – Rowan University, Fr.
Figueroa was the top rookie runner at the NJAC Championship this weekend, clocking a career-best 26:05 on the Stockton 8,000-meter course to finish 14th overall.
DIVISION III – NEW ENGLAND
Runner of the Week
Jake Hastings – Fitchburg State University, So.
Hastings took home MASCAC Runner of the Year honors as the top individual finisher with an eight-kilometer time of 26:02 to help the Falcons to a second-place team finish at the 2016 MASCAC Men’s Cross Country Championship.
Rookie of the Week
Peter Bakker – Colby-Sawyer College, Fr.
Bakker led the Colby-Sawyer to its first conference title on Saturday by finishing second out of 101 runners. The rookie finished the eight-kilometer race in a time of 26:29.3.
DIVISION III – NORTH
Runner of the Week
Ben Fazio – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Sr.
Fazio broke away from the pack late in the race to win the 2016 Liberty League Championship on the 8,000-meter course in 25:22.5 at Seneca Lake State Park. He won the race by four seconds. The Engineers captured its first league title since 2005, when they shared the honors with St. Lawrence.
Rookie of the Week
Adin Becker – Vassar College, Fr.
Becker was the top rookie finisher at the 2016 Liberty League Men's Cross Championships at Seneca Lake State Park. He finished the 8,000-meter course with a time of 26:17.3, for 13th and was the second Vassar runner to cross the finish line. Becker also helped the Brewers to their best finish in the championship in program history with a third place showing.
DIVISION III - SOUTH
Runner of the Week
Ernie Pitone – Widener University, Sr.
Pitone placed first-place in a time of 25:31.8 in the eight-kilometer course. The senior was 38 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Pitone concluded is collegiate career at the conference championship with his third-straight MAC Runner of the Year award and fourth-straight All-MAC First Team honor. He also led Widener to its fourth-straight team title.
Rookie of the Week
Edward Goebel – Carnegie Mellon University, Fr.
Goebel helped the Tartans to their second straight University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday, Oct. 29. The freshman was the fourth Tartan and 15th overall runner to cross the finish line of the 8,000-meter course, as he recorded a time of 25:16.93. Goebel was awarded UAA Rookie of the Year honors after being the first freshman to cross the finish line.
