ECAC Men's West Announces Weekly Award Recipients

DANBURY, Conn. – The ECAC Men’s West Hockey League has announced its weekly award winners for the week ending Nov. 27.
 
Forward Jory Mullin and goaltender Anthony Pupplo from Neumann University took home Player of the Week and Goalie of the Week honors after a stellar weekend for the Knights at the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. Elmira College’s Matthew Cuce rounded out the weekly honors with the Rookie of the Week award.

Mullin tallied six goals and an assist to lead the Knights to the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational title last weekend. The senior tallied a hat trick in a 6-0 win over Fitchburg State on Saturday, with his first goal standing as the eventual game-winner. In an 8-1 win over host Skidmore in the championship game on Sunday, Mullin again netted a hat trick and added an assist. He opened the scoring in the first period and also assisted on the game-winner. Mullin was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and also earned a spot on the All-Tournament team thanks to his exploits.

Pupplo went 2-0 in net for Neumann at the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. The freshman picked up his first collegiate shutout in the Knights’ 6-0 win over Fitchburg State on Saturday, turning aside 17 shots in the win. He followed on Sunday with a 27-save performance against No. 15/14 Skidmore College, handing the Thoroughbreds their first home loss of the season.

Cuce was Elmira's leading point scorer in a 3-0-0 week for the Soaring Eagles, recording eight points on two goals and six assists. His two goals were pivotal for Elmira, as they both came in a 7-4 win over Nichols on Sunday afternoon. The two tallies from Cuce were scored shorthanded and on the power play, with the power-play goal holding up as the eventual game winner. In the 7-4 win over Nichols, Cuce finished the game with five points on two goals and three assists. His five-point effort was the first by a Soaring Eagle since 2014 and the first by an EC rookie since the 2006-07 season.
