ECAC Announces 2016 Division III New England Men's Soccer All-Stars
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division III New England Men’s Soccer All-Star Team.
Luke Alvaro from Springfield College earned Offensive Player of the Year, with teammate Cam Powell taking home the award for Defensive Player of the Year. Forward Matthew Krikorian of Fitchburg State University captured the Rookie of the Year accolade.
Alvaro, also named 2016 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Athlete of the Year for men’s soccer, capped off a dominant senior year with 18 goals, passing his own Division III program record. Alvaro helped the Pride achieve a historic season with 18 wins, breaking the previous record of 17. Alvaro ranked first in the NEWMAC in goals (18) and points (41).
Powell was a threat on both ends of the field, scoring 21 points with 10 goals and one assist including five game-winners. The junior anchored a defense that had seven shutouts and helped the Pride hold their opponents to just 0.89 goals-per-game. Powell earned the 2016 NEWMAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year award.
Krikorian posted 24 points in 15 games in his first collegiate season, recording 11 goals and two assists, including two game-winning goals. Krikorian earned an ECAC Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week award and the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer Rookie of the Year award.
