ECAC Announces 2016 Division I Men's Soccer All-Stars
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division I Men’s Soccer All-Star Team.
Marist College stand-out Cameron Harr was voted Offensive Player of the Year, with Collyns Laokandi of St. Francis College Brooklyn taking home Defensive Player of the Year. UMass Lowell’s Ivan Abramovic collected the Rookie of the Year accolade, while UMass Lowell Head Coach Christian Figueroa was selected as the Coach of the Year.
Harr had an outstanding sophomore year leading the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with 17 goals and 35 points this season. The forward ranked first in the MAAC and fifth in the country with 0.89 goals per game. Harr’s four game-winning goals had him tied for most in the league.
A force to be reckoned with on both ends of the field, Laokandi takes home ECAC Defensive Player of the Year honors this season. The senior helped marshal a backline that allowed just 13 goals in 20 games. Laokandi recorded seven points on two goals and three assists, including a game-winner against Robert Morris University on Oct. 16.
In his first season on the field as a River Hawk, Abramovic scored nine goals and added a team-high eight assists for 26 points. Abramovic scored six game-winning goals and registered three multi-goal games, while recording points in 12 of 16 games on the year. His game-winning tally against St. Francis Brooklyn on Sept. 4 was named the number four play on SportsCenter Top 10 that evening. Abramovic earned America East Rookie of the Week honors four times this season.
Figueroa and his team captured the first America East regular-season title in school and program history, posting a .875 winning percentage. UMass Lowell started out the season at 10-0-2 and was one of the last three remaining unbeaten teams in the county. The River Hawks finished the 2016 campaign ranked No. 13 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 for the first time in program history.
