ECAC Announces 2016 Division II Men's Soccer All-Stars

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division II Men’s Soccer All-Star Team.

Charlie Ledula from LIU Post received the award for Offensive Player of the Year. Adelphi University’s Alejandro Pezini was named the DII Defensive Player of the Year with Coach Carlo Acquista receiving Coach of the Year accolade.

The ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, Ledula enjoyed a spectacular senior campaign, leading the East Coast Conference in goals (18), points (42) and game-winning goals (8). Ledula tallied at least one point in 14 of the team’s 19 games this season.

Penzini was the backbone of a staunch Panthers defense in 2016 that ranked fourth in the nation in goals-against-average and second in shutout percentage. The defender scored five goals on 10 shots, including the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Southern New Hampshire University. Penzini helped the Panthers achieve a league-leading 10 shutouts during the regular season. In 2016, Penzini earned Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) player of the week and CoSIDA Academic All-American Third Team accolades for his achievements on and off the field.

Acquista claims Coach of the Year honors after leading the Panthers to an impressive 19-1-2 overall record this season. Acquista claimed the NE-10 Coach of the Year accolade after guiding the Panthers to the program’s first NE-10 Championship title and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) East Region title en route to a berth in the Division II National Quarterfinals. Under Acquista, the Panthers set program records for both wins (19) and shutouts (13) this season.
