ECAC Announces 2016 Division I Women's Soccer All-Stars
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division I Women's Soccer All-Star Team.
Saint Joseph's University's stand-out Dakota Mills was voted Offensive Player of the Year, with Diana Poulin of St. John's University taking home Defensive Player of the Year. Monmouth University's Madie Gibson collected the Rookie of the Year accolade, while her head coach Krissy Turner was selected as the Coach of the Year.
Mills' award comes on the heels of a sensational sophomore season in which she tallied 41 total points in 22 games. The forward led her team in goals (18), including eight game-winners, and had five assists. Her keen eye for goal helped the Hawks to a 18-2-2 overall record this season.
Poulin set the St. John's career record for wins this season as well as setting the single-season program record for clean sheets with 12. The senior was one of the best goalkeepers in the country, finishing the season ranked 14th in Division I with a .522 goals-against-average. Her .867 save percentage ranked 15th in the nation and her 12 shutouts ranked seventh. Poulin earned her second National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region honor as well as winning the BIG EAST Conference Goalkeeper of the Year award for the third time in her career.
Gibson scored in four consecutive matches including the final, helping the Hawks win the MAAC Women's Soccer title this season. She was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Tournament Team. The forward led the team with 33 points and 12 goals, her nine assists and three game-winning goals helped cap a successful season for the Hawks in 2016.
Coach Turner led the Hawks to a 14-5-2 overall record, and their fourth NCAA berth in program history. Monmouth posted a 9-0-1 conference record, culminating in a MAAC Women's Soccer title this season.
