ECAC Announces 2016 Division II Women's Soccer All-Stars
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division II Women’s Soccer All-Star Team.
Idoia Agirre from the University of Bridgeport received the award for Offensive Player of the Year, while teammate Nicola Wothington was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Gannon University’s Taylor Lewis garnered Rookie of the Year, with Betty Ann Kempf Townsley from West Chester University capturing Coach of the Year honor.
Agirre enjoyed a spectacular campaign, leading the team in goals (25), points (55) and game-winners (8). Her production in front of goal helped the Purple Knights to a 18-4 overall record in 2016. Agirre was also named to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) First Team All-East Region.
In 2016, Worthington scored six goals and a team-high 15 assists for 27 points for the Purple Knights. She earned her second consecutive East Coast Conference (ECC) Defensive Player of the Year award and was named First Team All-Conference for the fourth straight season. The defender also helped the Purple Knights capture their second consecutive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II East Regional title with a 2-1 victory over Adelphi University. For her efforts on and off the field, Worthington received NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Second Team National Academic All-America honors, becoming the third player in program history to do so.

Lewis was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Freshman of the Year and landed a spot on the all-conference first team. The freshman forward scored 11 goals, two assists, 24 points and four game-winning goals in 19 matches. The forward ranked third among PSAC players in goals per match (0.58), third in points per match (1.26) and fourth in game-winning goals. Lewis scored multiple goals in a match three times. She netted goals during eight different contests, leading Gannon to a 6-2 record in those matches. Lewis also received the NCAA D2CCA Women's Soccer All-Atlantic Region first team accolade.
Kempf Townsley claims the Coach of the Year accolade after leading the Golden Rams to an unblemished 18-0 record this season, a No. 3 ranking in the NCAA DII Coaches Poll and a No. 1 seed in the PSAC Women’s Soccer Championship. Coach Kempf Townsley was named PSAC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year, earning this award for the second time in her career, the last one coming in 2009.
