ECAC Announces 2016 Division III North Women's Volleyball All-Stars

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division III South Women’s Volleyball All-Star teams.
 
Clarkson University junior Rachael Aird garnered the Offensive Player of the Year honor, while SUNY Canton freshman Jenna Roat earned Defensive Player of the Year. College at Brockport freshman Kelly Waters was awarded Rookie of the Year, and College at Brockport Head Coach Steve Pike received Coach of the Year.

Aird was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Honorable Mention and AVCA New York All-Region First-Team. She received CoSIDA Academic All-District 3, Liberty League First-Team All-Star and NCAA Tournament - Brockport Regional All-Tournament Team honors. Aird ranked second in the Liberty League in kills (504) and third in total blocks (100). Her .290 hitting percentage was sixth in the conference. Aird’s hitting percentage was good enough to lead Division III of players with at least 500 kills.

Roat earned All-Independent accolades from the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) as Libero of the Year. The freshman ranked first in the AD3I in total digs (661) by more than 150 and first with 5.90 digs per set. She set the bar high for her team as she had nearly twice as many digs as any other Roo and led the team with 44 service aces. Roat was a four-time ECAC North Defensive Player of the Week and has tallied double digit digs in 31 of 34 matches.

Waters received AVCA Northeast Region Honorable Mention and State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Rookie of the Year honors after leading the conference in hitting percentage (.377). The New York native ended the season with 218 kills on 453 attempts and added 48 total blocks.

Pike was recognized as SUNYAC Coach of the Year and led his team to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in program history. Over the past two seasons he sits at 68-6 and has not dropped a conference match since 2014. In Pike’s four years with the Golden Eagles he brought an eight-win team at the bottom of the league to a back-to-back 34-win seasons sitting atop the conference.
