ECAC Announces 2016 DI Men's Lacrosse All-Stars
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division I Men's Lacrosse All-ECAC Selections and major award winners.
Brown University junior Dylan Molloy was voted as the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year, while Michael Quinn of Yale University earned the honor for defensive player of the year. Pat Spencer, Loyola University Maryland's dynamic freshman attacker, earned top rookie honors, with Brown Head Coach Lars Tiffany collecting ECAC Coach of the Year honors.
Offensive Player of the Year
Dylan Molloy - Brown University, Jr., Attack
Molloy takes home the award for top offensive player following a historic season for the Bears that saw them reach the national semifinals for the first time since 1994. The junior posted 51 goals and 46 assists in 15 games played during the regular season, earning Ivy League Player of the Year honors. When counting postseason play, Molloy finished with 118 points (62 goals, 54 assists) to lead the nation, earning him United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Most Outstanding Player and First Team All-American honors. Molloy is also a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, given annually to the nation's most outstanding American college lacrosse player.
Defensive Player of the Year
Michael Quinn - Yale University, Sr., Defense
Quinn played a key role in a stingy Yale University defense in 2016. A First Team All-Ivy and USILA All-American selection, the senior picked up 26 groundballs and caused 13 turnovers in 12 games played during the regular season, helping the Bulldogs hold opponents to just 7.8 goals per game during the regular season. Yale would end the campaign ranked eighth in the nation in team defense (8.13 goals against per game).
Rookie of the Year
Pat Spencer - Loyola University Maryland, Fr., Attack
Spencer established himself as an offensive weapon early in the 2016 campaign, and continued his strong play throughout the season en route to earning the ECAC Rookie of the Year Award. The freshman finished the regular season as the Greyhounds' leader in goals (23), assists (35) and points (58), scoring two or more points in every Loyola contest during regular-season play. Spencer's exploits helped him become the first freshman to win the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year Awards outright in the same season. He was also named a USILA Second Team All-American.
Coach of the Year
Lars Tiffany - Brown University
Tiffany guided the 2016 Bears to a 14-1 regular season record and their first 6-0 Ivy record and outright League title since 1994. In Tiffany's 10th season at the helm, Brown spent much of the season in the top 10 and reached the national semifinals for the first time since 1994.
