ECAC Announces 2016 DI Women's Lacrosse All-Stars

DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division I Women's Lacrosse All-ECAC Selections and major award winners.

Courtney Murphy, Stony Brook University's offensive standout, garnered ECAC Offensive Player of the Year honors, while senior Maddy Lesher of Loyola University Maryland was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year. Syracuse University freshman Nicole Levy collected the honors for top rookie, with Angela McMahon of the University of Massachusetts rounding out the major awards with the coach of the year accolade.

Offensive Player of the Year
Courtney Murphy - Stony Brook University, Jr., Attack

Murphy posted an astounding 97 points during the regular season, netting 85 goals and setting up 12 more for the Seawolves to lead the nation in goals and points during the regular season. The junior scored four or more goals in 14 of 17 regular-season outings in 2016, and would close the year with an NCAA-record 100 goals and 16 assists for 116 points when including postseason play. Murphy was honored for her exploits with a selection to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American First Team.

Defensive Player of the Year
Maddy Lesher - Loyola University Maryland, Sr., Defense

Lesher capped her collegiate career in impressive fashion in 2016. The senior led the Patriot League in groundballs (54) and caused turnovers (45) during the regular season, anchoring a Loyola defense that averaged 6.54 goals-against per game in conference play. For her efforts, Lesher became the first three-time winner of the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year Award, and was also named a IWLCA Second Team All-American.

Rookie of the Year
Nicole Levy - Syracuse University, Fr., Attack

The Atlantic Coast Conference's Rookie of the Year, Levy began her college career in impressive fashion in 2016. The freshman notched 54 points on 36 goals and 18 assists in 19 regular-season outings, leading all ACC rookies in scoring in the process.

Coach of the Year
Angela McMahon - University of Massachusetts

McMahon led UMass to a 16-1 overall regular-season record and a 9-0 mark in Atlantic 10 play, with the only loss coming against Boston College, who was ranked No. 14 at the time. After helping the Minutewomen capture their eighth-consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship, and sixth-consecutive undefeated conference season, McMahon was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the fifth time in six years.
