ECAC Announces Corvias Women's Soccer Players of the Week
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Women's Soccer Players of the Week for the week ending Sept. 18.
DIVISION II
Offensive Player of the Week
Haley Noble - Mercy College, So., F
Noble led the Mavericks in goals (4) and points (9) on the week as Mercy went 3-0 on the week. The sophomore began the week with two goals against previously unbeaten Le Moyne on Tuesday before scoring a goal at Daemen on Friday. The forward concluded the week with a goal and an assist in the Mavericks 2-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday.
Defensive Player of the Week
Shannon Differ - Gannon University, Sr., GK
Differ allowed only one goal and made 11 saves during a 2-1 victory against Indiana (Pa.) in Gannon's only action of the week. She set a new career-high with her 11 saves. Her 11 saves were the most by a Lady Knight since Sarah Geffel had 16 during a 1-0 victory against West Chester at McConnell Family Stadium on September 14, 2013. Differ helped Gannon extend its regular-season home win streak to 15 matches dating back to last season.
Rookie of the Week
Jessica Brandt - Mercy College, Fr., M
Brandt scored a goal and added two assists to lead Mercy to a 5-1 win over previously unbeaten Le Moyne on Tuesday.
DIVISION III - METRO
Offensive Player of the Week
Adrianna Boucher - Stockton University, Sr., F
Boucher paced Stockton with three goals in a 2-0 week. She needed just three shots on goal to score all three goals. She scored twice, including the game-winning goal, against St. Joseph's (LI), and added another score in the Ospreys' 3-1 win over Kean. Boucher currently leads all NJAC players in points (18) and goals (8) this season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Missy Quinn - Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham, Jr., D
Quinn led the Devils to a 2-1 week and anchored a defense that allowed just two goals over three matches. Quinn led a defense that allowed just one shot against St. Elizabeth. She also scored the game's third goal in the 10-0 victory. Quinn then helped the defense hold Mount Saint Vincent to just six shots, while scoring the game-winning goal in the 4-1 victory. In a 1-0 setback to Bard, Quinn helped keep the Devils in the game by holding their opponents to just nine shots on goal.
Rookie of the Week
Mallensy Vargas - New Jersey City College, Fr., M
Vargas recorded a hat trick to lead NJCU to a nonconference win over SUNY Maritime. She drained three goals in a game shortened to 70 minutes, including two in a 2:17 span midway through the first half. She completed the hat trick with her third goal just prior to halftime. She currently leads all NJAC players with 1.20 goals per game and is third among league players with 13 points.
DIVISION III - NEW ENGLAND
Defensive Player of the Week
Kayla Gordon - Husson University, So., GK
Gordon recorded an impressive 1-0 shutout win against the defending NAC Champions, Colby-Sawyer, as she made an extraordinary 17 saves. The keeper then recorded eight saves, while allowing four goals, in a tough loss to a strong Bowdoin team. The sophomore made 25 saves on the week and posted a .862 save percentage.
Rookie of the Week
Jana Paecht - Framingham State University, Fr., F
Paecht scored two goals in a 2-0 week for the Rams, including a goal in the 3-2 win over Fitchburg State and the game-winner in the 1-0 win over Keene State College.
DIVISION III - NORTH
Offensive Player of the Week
Emma Geyer - SUNY Oswego, Jr., M
Geyer scored two goals in Oswego's 2-0-1 week. The junior led the Lakers to victory on Wednesday evening against Alfred University, which was previously undefeated, by scoring the game-winning goal later in the second half. On Saturday, against another lossless squad in St. Lawrence, she tallied another goal with less than 20 seconds remaining in regulation to earn the Lakers a tie.
Defensive Player of the Week
Melissa Siegfried - SUNY Oswego, Sr., GK
Siegfried was crucial in the Lakers 2-0-1 week. She recorded two shutouts, allowing just one goal in the other game; each of the teams faced was previously undefeated. The senior notched eight saves during the week and recorded nearly 300 minutes in the goal. With the two wins and equal number shutouts, Siegfried moves into Oswego State women's soccer history by ranking in the top-10 in wins and shutouts.
Rookie of the Week
Soren Shirley - SUNY Canton
Shirley led the Roos with a goal and assist as she scored her first collegiate points in a 5-0 win against Green Mountain College on Friday as SUNY Canton split a pair of games on the week.
DIVISION III - SOUTH
Offensive Player of the Week
Tatiana Ruzzini - Washington & Jefferson College, Jr., F
Ruzzini established a new career high with four goals in the Presidents' 6-5 win over Penn State Behrend Saturday. It also marked her first-career hat trick. She currently leads the PAC with 18 points and seven goals this season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Kerry Leonard- Juniata College, Jr., GK
Leonard picked up her first two shutouts of the season this past week. She stopped eight shots as Juniata won 1-0 over Penn State Altoona on Tuesday. On Saturday, she had six saves and turned away some difficult shots as Juniata played to a 0-0 draw with Westminster.
Rookie of the Week
Aleya Cummings - Wesley College, Fr., F
Cummings continues to dominate in every match she plays. The freshman attacker netted two goals in each of the Wolverines' contests this week, leading Wesley to a 2-0 win over Rosemont and a 3-0 victory against Lehman. Cummings registered the game-winning goals in both contests. On Saturday against Lehman the Freshman scored just 1:07 into the game and then bent a 25-yard free kick into the net in the second half. With 12 goals on the year, she currently leads the CAC and the nation in scoring.
