ECAC Women's West Announces Weekly Award Recipients
DANBURY, Conn. – The ECAC Women’s West Hockey League has announced its weekly award winners for the week ending Jan. 15.
Melissa Sheeran from Plattsburgh State was named Player of the Week after an offensive eruption over the weekend. Utica College’s Keira Goin earned Goalie of the Week, while Buffalo State’s Natasha Steinle repeated as the Rookie of the Week.
Sheeran registered eight points on five goals and three assists and had a plus-8 rating as top-ranked Plattsburgh State twice beat Chatham University over the weekend. She logged seven points on four goals and three assists in Saturday’s 10-0 win, including a first-period hat trick. Sheeran then buried a third-period marker in Sunday’s 7-1 win. Saturday’s hat trick was her second of the season and also the second against a conference foe.
Goin enjoyed a record-setting week in the Utica cage. The senior started her week with a 19-save shutout in the Pioneers’ 2-0 win over SUNY Canton on Tuesday, setting a new program record for career shutouts with 12 in the process. Goin then made 22 saves in a tough, 2-0 loss to No. 8/9 Oswego State on Friday, before rebounding with a 28-stop performance to lead Utica to a 2-1 win against the Lakers the next night.
Steinle’s second-consecutive honor for Rookie of the Week comes after the freshman continued her scorching scoring pace for the Bengals last weekend. The Colorado native scored twice in Saturday’s 5-2 win over William Smith College, then added another tally in a 2-1 win over the Herons on Sunday as Buffalo State completed the weekend sweep. Steinle now has six goals in her past six games.
