ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Awards
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced it’s weekly award for women’s gymnastics for the week of competition ending Jan. 22.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Caroline Moore – University of Pennsylvania, So., St. Louis, Mo.
Moore won three events last weekend as Penn hosted Ivy-rival Yale. The sophomore won vault with a 9.7, beam with a score of 9.8 and also tied for top spot in the floor exercise with a career-best 9.875. Her floor score also helped the Quakers post a team event-high with a 49.025.
Specialist of the Week
Alex Hartke – University of Pennsylvania, Jr., Fort Montgomery, N.Y.
Hartke scored a career-high 9.875 on the floor exercise to tie with teammate Caroline Moore for first place. Her score helped Penn capture a dual-meet win over Yale, 193.575-191.125.
Rookie of the Week
Daisy Todd – Temple University, Fr., San Jose, Calif.
In her first home meet as a collegiate gymnast, Todd recorded a season-high 38.8 all-around score that included a season-high beam score. Todd also matched her season-highs on both bars and floor. Her bar mark also provided Todd her first event title, topping all bar competitors of the afternoon. Todd's all-around score ranks in a tie for seventh all time in program history.
Coaches Choice
Megan Ryan - Yale University, Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.
Ryan scored a career-high 9.8 to tie for first place on bars in Yale’s meet with UPenn last weekend. The junior, who is limited in competition to just two events, also scored a 9.475 on vault.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Alexandra Avendano – Southern Connecticut State University, Jr., Burlington, Mass.
Avendano notched the highest individual finish on the day for the Southern Connecticut State University gymnastics team in its three-team meet at New Hampshire on Saturday. She placed fourth overall on the floor exercise with a 9.75 in that event as the Owls took third place as a team against UNH and Pittsburgh. She also posted a 9.65 on the vault.
Specialist of the Week
Tiffany Elliott – Southern Connecticut State University, Jr., Clarendon Hills, Ill.
Elliott had the Owls' top score on the vault with a 9.675, which was good for 12th overall. She also posted a 9.5 on the floor.
Rookie of the Week
Bella D’Orazio – West Chester University, Fr., Limerick, Penn.
D’Orazio scored a 9.45 on bars for the Golden Rams over the weekend. Competing from the lead-off spot, the freshman’s score represented a season best and marked the third time in as many competitions she has contributed a score for West Chester.
Coaches Choice
Meghan Chan – West Chester University, Jr., Northvale, New Jersey
Chan recorded the best beam score of her collegiate career, recording a 9.8 to finish fourth against Division I competition from Rutgers University, Brown University and nationally-ranked University of Nebraska. The junior also posted a 9.5 mark on vault for West Chester.
