ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Award Recipients
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its weekly award for women’s gymnastics for the week of competition ending Jan. 29.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Lyanda Dudley – Cornell University, So., Omaha, Nebraska
Competing against Rutgers University and Michigan State University, Dudley posted an all-around score of 38.775 to finish in third. The sophomore scored 9.875 on floor exercise, tied for the highest score across the ECAC in any event last weekend, good for a second-place finish in the event.
Specialist of the Week
Kaitlin Green – Cornell University, So., Safety Harbor, Florida
Green won the beam event in Cornell’s meet with Rutgers and Michigan State, turning in a score of 9.875. The sophomore also posted a 9.75 on bars, the fourth-best score of the event, helping Cornell post its highest team score of the season (193.45)
Rookie of the Week
Daisy Todd – Temple University, Fr., San Jose, California
Todd set new season-highs on all four events in her fourth collegiate competition. The freshman scored 38.975 on all-around at the West Virginia quad meet to rank third overall on the day among a group of seven performers. Her score also stands fourth all-time in Temple history for individual all-around scores and helped lead the Owls to a new program record of 193.625. Todd's bar score of 9.825 is also the highest from any Owl this season.
Coaches Choice
Sloane Smith – Yale University, Jr., Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
Battling injuries, Smith scored a 9.6 on floor exercise to open the event for a Yale line-up that totaled 48.475 in the competition at the Don Tonry Bulldog Invitational.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Majesta Valentine – West Chester University, Sr., Wilmington, Delaware
Competing against Division I UPenn, Valentine won the all-around with a score of 39.150. She also posted wins in the balance beam (9.825), floor exercise (9.925) and tied for top spot with her teammate on vault (9.675). Valentine’s floor score broke the individual record for the second time this season, and helped West Chester break the team record for the floor exercise with a total mark of 49.025.
Specialist of the Week
Brianna Comport – University of Bridgeport, Sr., Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania
Comport posted first- and second-place finishes on the balance beam in back-to-back competitions last weekend. The senior took first in Bridgeport’s meet with Brown University with a score of 9.875, and then finished in second (9.825) in a quad meet with Yale, Southern Connecticut State University and Rhode Island College. Comport also finished in first in the floor exercise in both events, scoring 9.875 against Brown on Friday before bettering that performance with a 9.9 the next day.
Rookie of the Week
Maya Reimers – University of Bridgeport, Fr., New York, New York
Reimers played a key role in Bridgeport’s two victories over Division I opponents last week. The freshman posted personal bests on the beam (9.9) and floor exercise (9.85) over the course of the week, and finished third in the all-around against Brown (38.525) and second against Yale (38.525)
Coaches Choice
Madison Brent – West Chester University, Jr., Waxhaw, North Carolina
After missing most of last season due to injury, Brent posted a career-best performance on floor in West Chester’s meet against Penn. The junior scored 9.8, tying her for third in the event.
