ECAC Announces Corvias Women's Basketball Players of the Week
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for the week ending Jan. 1.
DIVISION II
Player of the Week
Kristen Drogsler – Caldwell University, Jr., G
Drogsler led the nationally-ranked Cougars with 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two. The junior capped the run early in the second quarter with a trifecta to put the Cougars ahead 24-22 with 8:20 left in the first half before Caldwell eventually fell to Malloy 81-76.
Rookie of the Week
Gabrielle Troisi – West Chester University, Fr., G
Troisi provided nine points to go along with a career and new team-high eight assists in West Chester’s 81-67 victory over Bloomsburg. The freshman went 4-for-6 from the floor, but it was her ability to find open teammates that truly shined the most in the win. The Norristown native also chipped in five rebounds and a pair of steals for the Golden Rams.
DIVISION III - METRO
Player of the Week
Camille McPherson – Moravian College, Sr., F
McPherson was named the MVP of the 14th Roosevelt's 21st Greyhound Classic after averaging 25.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. She had 23 points, five boards and two assists in an 83-74 victory over Penn State Lehigh Valley. McPherson added 28 points, seven rebounds and three assists in an 88-78 victory over Lebanon Valley College in the championship game. The senior was 18-of-32 from the floor (56.3 percent) and 13-for-14 at the foul line (92.9 percent) during the two games.
Rookie of the Week
Maddie Capuano – Moravian College, Fr., G
Capuano helped Moravian to a 2-0 record last week as the Hounds won the 14th Roosevelt's 21st Greyhound Classic. A starter at point guard, Capuano earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after averaging 19.0 points per game. In the Greyhounds' 83-74 win over Penn State Lehigh Valley, Capuano scored a career high 20 points (in the first three quarters) to go with four assists and four steals. She finished the tournament with 18 points, four rebounds and six steals in an 88-78 win over Lebanon Valley College in the championship game. For the week, Capuano had 38 points, five rebounds, six assists, 10 steals and one blocked shot. She shot 13-of-21 from the floor (61.9 percent), 6-of-10 on three-pointers and 6-of-9 at the foul line.
DIVISION III – NEW ENGLAND
Player of the Week
Chandler Guerrette – Husson University, Sr., G
Guerrette tallied her 1,000th-career point as the Eagles fell in a hard-fought 92-87 double overtime road loss to Guilford, a team that competed in the second round of the 2016 national tournament. The senior had a strong all-round game pitching in a season and game-high 25 points, to go along with seven assists five steals and three rebounds. The guard shot an impressive 91.7 percent from the free throw line (11-of-12) in a career-high 41 minutes. Guerrette is the 20th Eagle under Coach Walker to eclipse the 1,000th-career point mark and the 22nd player in program history to achieve this feat.
Rookie of the Week
Tianna Sugars – Colby-Sawyer College, Fr., C
Sugars netted 10 points, gathered five rebounds, collected four blocks and earned one steal in Colby-Sawyer's 64-60 victory over Manhattanville. The rookie shot 66.7 percent from the floor (4-of-6) in 20 minutes off the bench.
DIVISION III – NORTH
Player of the Week
Hannah Rehbaum – The College at Brockport, Sr, F
Rehbaum was named to the Susan Dunagan Classic All-Tournament Team for her two game performance. The senior averaged 17 points and seven rebounds on the week. She stared with 13 points and seven boards against Bridgewater College, to go with two assists. In the win against hosts Roanoke College, Rehbaum turned in a season-high 21-points to go with seven rebounds.
Rookie of the Week
Sophie Nick – Vassar College, Fr., F
Nick notched her third and fourth double-doubles of the season during Vassar's back-to-back games at Skidmore and Union. The freshman poured in 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in Vassar's close 68-66 setback at Skidmore on Friday. Against the Thoroughbreds, Nick notched Vassar's first two field goals in the tight battle. She also scored back-to-back buckets to knot the game at 66 with 32 seconds remaining. The next day, Nick helped the Brewers pull out a 57-48 road win over the Dutchwomen with 10 points and 10 boards.
DIVISION III – SOUTH
Player of the Week
Aaliya Hayes – Neumann University, Sr., F
Hayes led the Knights to an 85-83 win against Widener. The senior recorded a double-double with 30 points and 13 rebounds. She was 13-of-20 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line while recording 36 minutes of action.
Rookie of the Week
Francesca Sicari – Westminster College, Fr., G
Sicari scored 13 points, knocking down 4-of-6 three-point attempts, in Friday's 88-48 win at John Jay. She added three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
