ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Honors
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its weekly awards for women’s gymnastics for the week of competition ending Feb. 19.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Caroline Morant – Brown University, Sr., Chicago, Illinois
Morant was solid on all four events in two meets in Missouri this past weekend. She earned a career-high and school-record 9.925 on floor exercise on Friday at the GymQuarters Invitational at Lindenwood University. The senior totaled a 39.025 in the all-around in the meet, and also turned in a solid all-around performance in a tri-meet with Lindenwood at Seattle Pacific (38.975). Morant’s all-around scores were two of the three highest posted by ECAC competitors in the event over the weekend.
Specialist of the Week
Aaliyah Kerr – College of William & Mary, So., Fredericksburg, Virginia
Kerr earned a share of the floor title at the five-time George Washington with a career-high 9.9. That score ranks tied for fifth in school history in the event. The sophomore also tied the team’s top score on floor (9.775) at the Maryland quad meet later in the week.
Rookie of the Week
Daisy Todd – Temple University, Fr., San Jose, California
Todd posted a solid 38.775 in the all-around in the Owls’ dual with No. 27 New Hampshire. The freshman scored 9.825 on bars, the third time she had done so this season, tying for second place in the process.
Coaches Choice
Natalie Borden – University of Pennsylvania, Fr., Naperville, Illinois
Borden was a late addition to the uneven bars lineup, but made her mark in her collegiate debut. The freshman earned a 9.575 to contribute to Penn’s team score of 193.425, its second-highest team score of the season.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Majesta Valentine – West Chester University, Sr., Wilmington, Delaware
Competing against Division I Cornell, Valentine took top spot in the balance beam (9.85), floor exercise (9.85) and all-around (39.175) over the weekend. She also tied for second on vault with a 9.75, while her 9.85 on beam equaled the school record. Valentine is currently ranked first in the Northeast region among all Division I, II and III all-around gymnasts.
Specialist of the Week
Tiffany Elliot – Southern Connecticut State University, Jr., Clarendon Hills, Illinois
Elliott claimed the top spot on the vault with a score of 9.65 and was seventh on the floor with that same score in the quad-meet with Yale, Springfield and Rhode Island College.
Rookie of the Week
Jordan Miranda – West Chester University, Fr., Winchester, Massachusetts
Miranda scored a 9.5 on bars for the Golden Rams in their meet against Division I Cornell.
Coaches Choice
Rose Wortman – West Chester University, Jr., Bellefonte, Pennsylvania
Wortman scored a 9.725 on the balance beam to earn a tie for fourth in West Chester’s meet against Cornell last weekend. She also earned a 9.625 in the floor exercise.
