ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Accolades
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its weekly awards for women’s gymnastics for the week of competition ending Feb. 26.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Jade Buford – Yale University, Fr., Coppell, Texas
Buford won the Ivy Classic All-Around this weekend with the highest all-around score of the week among ECAC competitors, posting a career-best 39.025. She also was co-champion on floor exercise (9.85) and scored career-highs on vault (9.675), bars (9.75) and balance beam (9.75). Buford’s efforts helped the Bulldogs total the second-highest event team scores in program history on uneven bars and vault.
Specialist of the Week
Kaitlyn Green – Cornell University, So., Safety Harbor, Florida
Green took top spot in both bars and beam at the Ivy League Classic last weekend. Her mark of 9.85 on beam was the highest of the week among ECAC competitors, while her bar score of 9.85 ranked second in the event for the week.
Rookie of the Week
Rebecca Chong – Yale University, Fr., Warrenton, Virginia
Chong scored a 9.725 on vault to help Yale score its second-highest team score on the event in school history. She also contributed a 9.6 on floor exercise which helped Yale win the event as a team at the Ivy League Classic.
Coaches Choice
Yasmin Eubanks – Temple University, Fr., Mitchelville, Maryland
Eubanks rebounded from a 9.225 on vault to post one of her best bar routines of the season for the Owls. The freshman scored a 9.7 on bars to help Temple to a season-best 48.725 in the event, her second-best score of the season.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Majesta Valentine – West Chester University, Sr., Wilmington, Delaware
Valentine had another record-breaking week for WCU. Competing against the University of Maryland, Temple and Southern Connecticut State University, the senior tied her school record in the all-around with a score of 39.3, good for first place. She also tied for first on floor with a score of 9.925, and took top spot on beam with a score of 9.875 to set a new program record in the event.
Specialist of the Week
Madison Brent – West Chester University, Jr., Waxhaw, North Carolina
Competing against Division I competition, Brent posted a career-best score on floor for the Golden Rams. The junior scored a 9.85, tying for fourth and helping her team break the team program record in the event.
Rookie of the Week
Keylea Brothers – Southern Connecticut State University, Fr., Lexington, Kentucky
Brothers scored a 9.525 on beam and 9.7 in the floor exercise in SCSU’s quad-meet against Maryland, Temple and West Chester.
Coaches Choice
Kelsey Campbell – University of Bridgeport, Jr., Las Vegas, Nevada
Facing competition from UCLA and Utah State University, Campbell placed second in the all-around with a total of 38.750 on Monday. The junior then followed up with another second-place showing in the all-around competition on Sunday, scoring 38.825.
