Guerrette and Rose Highlight DIII New England Women's Basketball Major Awards and All-Stars

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016-17 Division III New England Women’s Basketball Major Awards and All-Star team.
 
Husson University senior Chandler Guerrette received the Player of the Year award, while Fitchburg State University freshman Kyra Rose was named Rookie of the year. Husson Head Coach Kissy Walker received the Coach of the Year honor to complete the major awards.

Guerrette garnered North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors after finishing the conference regular season ranked in the top-10 in 11 different statistical categories, including steals (91) and steals per game (3.5). Through 26 games the senior averaged 14.2 points per game, while shooting 40.3 percent from the floor and 81.6 percent from the charity stripe. Guerrette netted 40 3-pointers, dished 96 assists and pulled down 116 rebounds. The senior earned a spot in the Husson record book as she surpassed 1,000 career-points. In addition to her season-end awards, Guerrette claimed two NAC Athlete of the Week honors, one ECAC New England Player of the Week honor and was named to the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) honor roll once this season.

Rose was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Rookie of the Year after leading the Falcons with 19.5 points per game. The rookie pulled down 191 rebounds, dished 91 assists and blocked 31 shots. Rose collected plenty of honors this season including MASCAC Second Team All-Conference, MASCAC Rookie of the week nine times and ECAC Rookie of the Week four times.

Walker was honored as the NAC Coach of the Year for the sixth time during her Husson career. In her 26th season at the helm, she led the Eagles to their fourth-consecutive season with at least 15 wins, and second-consecutive 20-win season. Husson ended conference play ranked in the top-two in 11 categories, leading the league in field goals made per game (28.3), free-throw percentage (71.4 percent), offensive rebounds per game (17), assists per game (16.3), steals per game (16.3), points per game (76.3) and turnovers forced (28.2). Walker coached two student-athletes to all-conference first-team honors in addition to helping Guerrette gather NAC and ECAC Player of the Year.
