Tarbert, Diggs Headline DIII South Women's Basketball Major Awards and All-Stars

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016-17 Division III South Women’s Basketball Major Awards and All-Star team.
 
Sara Tarbert of Stevenson University was voted the Player of the Year, with Victoria Diggs from Frostburg State University taking home the Rookie of the Year honor. Janice Luck from Albright College captured the Coach of the Year award.

Tarbert was named MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year after she helped lead the Mustangs back to the conference final for the third-consecutive year. Through 26 games during the regular season and conference tournament, the senior averaged a double-double with 23 points and 13.5 boards per game. She recorded 599 points, 350 rebounds and 44 blocks. This is not the first accolade Tarbert is collecting this year as she was an eight-time conference Player of the Week recipient and two-time D3hoops.com Team of the Week honoree in season, and was also a CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team selection.

Diggs receives this honor after a strong first year of collegiate competition for Frostburg State. The first-year guard recorded 295 points in 26 contests during the regular season and conference tournament to average 11.3 points per game. A conference Player of the Week honoree on one occasion this season, Diggs also registered 77 boards, 58 assists and 45 steals during her rookie campaign as she helped Frostburg State reach the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time since 2012-13.

Luck led the Lady Lions to a 22-5 regular season and conference tournament record and a perfect 16-0 conference record. The MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year guided her team to its third-straight conference title game, and helped two student-athletes earn all-conference recognition (one first team, one honorable mention). Luck also surpassed 200 career victories during this season.
