Hart, Dennis Headline 2016-17 Division III North Men's Basketball All-Star Selections
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016-17 Division III North Men’s Basketball All-ECAC selections and major award winners.
Clarkson University’s Derek Hart earns the honor for Player of the Year, while Kevin Dennis of Morrisville State College claims the award for Rookie of the Year. Luke Flockerzi of the University of Rochester rounds out the major awards with the 2016-17 ECAC Division III North Coach of the Year accolade.
Hart collects the ECAC Player of the Year award after leading the Liberty League in scoring, with his 22.2 points per game marking the highest scoring average since the conference rebranded in 2004-05. The forward shot 62.8 percent on the season and led the team in rebounds per game (8.2) while adding 2.1 assists per contest. Hart received Liberty League Performer of the Week or Honor Roll recognition 10 times this season and was also the ECAC Player of the Week in the North region once.
Dennis captures the Rookie of the Year honor after an impressive debut season for the Mustangs. A starter in 25 of 28 games, Dennis led the Morrisville State in scoring and rebounding with an average of 19.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game while shooting 60.8 percent from the floor. In addition to his freshman accolade from the ECAC, Dennis was named to the 2016-17 All-North East Athletic Conference First Team.
After a 13-0 start, Flockerzi led Rochester to the NCAA tournament for the third time in seven years, and the first time since 2012-13. Under Flockerzi the Yellowjackets finished the regular season with a 21-4 mark, and rose as high as No. 3 in the D3hoops.com national rankings.
