Monroe, Hayes Claim Major Awards in Division III South Men's Basketball All-Star Selections

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016-17 Division III South Men’s Basketball All-ECAC selections and major award winners.

Tyheim Monroe from Cabrini University was voted the region’s Player of the Year, while Cameron Hayes of Stevenson University receives the Rookie of the Year award. Jim Rullo, head coach of Neumann University, rounds out the major awards with the ECAC Coach of the Year accolade.

Monroe is the fourth player in Cabrini history to receive Player of the Year from the ECAC. The forward led the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) in points (575) and rebounds (409). The junior averaged 21.9 points per game, 15.7 rebounds per game, and 2.4 assists per game, and also led his team in minutes, free-throw attempts and made free throws. A three-time CSAC Player of the Week, Monroe also ranked in the top-50 of the Bevo Francis Award watch list, given annually to the top small college basketball student-athlete.

Hayes, the leading freshman scorer in the MAC Commonwealth, claims the top ECAC rookie honor. The first-year guard led all Mustangs in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game en route to winning MAC Commonwealth Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year. Hayes also contributed 105 rebounds while shooting 42.2 percent from the field and 78.1 percent from the charity stripe. 

Rullo claims the 2016-17 ECAC DIII South Coach of the Year honor after leading the Knights to a CSAC Championship, their second in three seasons. Under Rullo, Neumann posted a 25-2 overall record this season, and cracked the top-25 of the national rankings for the first time in program history.
