ECAC Announces Corvias Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week for the week ending April 9.
DIVISION II
Offensive Player of the Week
Ashley Pyle – West Chester University, Sr., A
Pyle propelled West Chester to three straight conference victories last week against Bloomsburg, Gannon and Slippery Rock. The senior finished the week with 20 points, which included 11 goals in addition to nine assists for the Golden Rams. To begin last week, Pyle registered four goals as well as four assists to lift the Golden Rams past visiting Bloomsburg, 18-11. Afterwards, Pyle put together four goals and five assists to down host Gannon, 21-6, on Friday. The following day, she tallied a hat trick to prevail past host Slippery Rock, 10-8.
Defensive Player of the Week
Talia Stagnitta – Mercy College, So., D
Stagnitta had a strong week on defense for Mercy with a team-high 12 ground balls and nine caused turnovers in three games. The sophomore began last week with four ground balls and four caused turnovers against No. 14 NYIT before adding an assist, five ground balls and two caused turnovers against Roberts Wesleyan. Stagnitta ended the week with three ground balls and three caused turnovers in a victory over University of the District of Columbia on Sunday.
Rookie of the Week
Arden Kassaleh – Caldwell University, Fr., A
Kassaleh totaled 15 points with 11 goals in three games last week. She tallied six goals and two assists with four groundballs and four draw controls against Dominican. Kassaleh also chipped in three goals and two assists in a win over Felician.
DIVISION III – NORTH
Offensive Player of the Week
Jordan Johnson – St. John Fisher College, Sr., A
Johnson posted 12 points last week, helping the Cardinals secure two wins. In a rainy bout with Buffalo State, the senior notched a hat trick and assisted on three others. Johnson then made her way into the Fisher history books during the Saturday tilt against Houghton. The senior assisted on four goals with the first dime giving her the title of St. John Fisher College career assists leader.
Defensive Player of the Week
Malorie Knowlton – Curry College, Sr., D
Knowlton caused 17 turnovers and snatched 12 ground balls for the Colonels last week. The senior’s standout performance came during Curry’s 13-8 conference win over Wentworth. Knowlton caused a career-high 13 turnovers, collected eight ground balls and netted two goals.
Rookie of the Week
Brittany Ireland – Colby-Sawyer College, So., F
In her first season playing, Ireland was second on the Chargers squad last week with 15 points on nine goals and a team-best six assists. The rookie added six ground balls, six draw controls and two caused turnovers as the Chargers went 3-0. Ireland recorded three goals and at least one assist in each game. Against Green Mountain College, she tallied three goals, five draws, four ground balls, one assist and one caused turnover. Versus Johnson State, the forward claimed three goals, three assists, two ground balls, one draw and one caused turnover. Ireland ended the week with three goals and two assists in a win over Lyndon.
DIVISION III – SOUTH
Offensive Player of the Week
Monica Ewansik – Washington & Jefferson College, Sr., M
Ewansik had the game-winning goal in both W&J victories last week as the Presidents went 2-0 in ORLC play to claim the top spot in the league standings. Last Wednesday at Westminster, the senior had five goals and two assists for seven points, while on Sunday she led W&J to a 12-11 overtime victory with a career-high seven goals, including the game-winner 2:06 into overtime. For the week, she totaled 15 points (12 goals, three assists) on 18 shots (15 on-goal), with five ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Defensive Player of the Week
Caroline Kallos – Washington & Jefferson College, Jr., M
Kallos helped W&J to a 2-0 week in league play, which included a 12-11 overtime win over Transylvania Sunday. She totaled nine ground balls, eight draw controls and eight caused turnovers in the two games, plus accounted for 12 points with nine goals and three assists. Last Wednesday against Westminster she had six goals and two assists on seven shots, plus four ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw controls. In the overtime win against Transylvania, she posted three goals, an assist, five ground balls, four caused turnovers and four draw controls.
Rookie of the Week
Diana Johnston – St. Joseph’s-Long Island, Fr., M
Johnston scored eight points on seven goals and one assist over two games played, adding 11 draw controls in the process to help the Golden Eagles to crucial possession time. She collected four goals, one assist and a game-high eight draw controls versus Old Westbury. Johnston added a hat trick in the triumph over Mount Saint Mary.
