Danbury, CONN. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its newest initiative, the
ECAC Empowerment Series. The series will consist of one-day workshops held throughout the ECAC’s geographical footprint periodically each year. The inaugural event is slated for Thursday, April 20 at the Reid Castle on the campus of Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y.
The concept behind the
ECAC Empowerment Series is to offer professional development opportunities for athletic department staffers at ECAC member-institutions that may not have the resources to attend national events.
While designed for ECAC members, The
ECAC Empowerment Series is open to anyone that wishes to attend. Admission is free for any staff member at an ECAC member-institution, and $50 for any non-ECAC member.

The events are designed to be one-day workshops consisting of panel discussions offering an array of networking, mentorship and leadership advice from experienced leaders in the industry. The guest speakers will focus on a variety of topics relevant to best practices and current issues facing today’s athletic administrators.
“It is important for the ECAC to offer professional development events geared toward ECAC members,” said ECAC President/CEO Dan Coonan. “We want to give our members access to the tools that will help them manage their career and excel in the ever-evolving field of intercollegiate athletics. We want to provide staff, coaches and student-athletes at our member schools some professional development and networking opportunities without the necessity of flying to a national meeting and incurring travel and hotel costs.”
The lineup of discussion topics for the kickoff event offers something for everyone on staff. From Maximizing Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities, to Establishing an Athletics Streaming Platform and Building an Effective Office Culture, all attendees are guaranteed to leave having gained a wealth of knowledge.

Coonan recognized the branding of the
ECAC Empowerment Series as a key component to its success. He charged, Asa S. Bushnell Assistant for Communications & Marketing Esteban Camino with the task and was not disappointed.
“We wanted to identify a word that defined the ECAC’s purpose of this series. Empowerment is the authority or power given to someone to become stronger and more confident in something. The word empowerment was the right fit to describe the goal of this initiative. We want attendees to walk away having gained insight about the industry,” said Camino.
