Nelson, Kallos, LaRochelle and Stuckel Headline DIII South Women's Lacrosse Major Awards and All-Stars

DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2017 Division III South Women's Lacrosse major award recipients and All-ECAC selections.

Maggie Nelson of Saint Vincent College was tabbed ECAC South Offensive Player of the Year. Washington & Jefferson College teammates Caroline Kallos and Rae LaRochelle collected the honors of Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively. Kristen Stuckel from Muhlenberg College rounded out the major awards, taking home Coach of the Year.

Nelson's ECAC Offensive Player of the Year award comes on the heels of being named Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORCL) Offensive Player of the Year. The junior was a three-time ORLC Offensive Player of the Week and was selected the ECAC DIII South Offensive Player of the Week once. She is a two-time First Team All-ECAC and an ORLC First Team honoree. The junior established single-season school records in both goals (86) and points (134) in 2017. Through 17 games she leads all of Division III with 134 points.

Kallos is named the Defensive Player of the Year following a season full of accolades. The junior has yet to have a season unrecognized by the ORLC. Her freshman campaign resulted in the ORLC Newcomer of the Year followed by two ORLC Defensive Player of the Year honors in as many years. Kallos was a four-time ORLC Defensive Player of the Week and a three-time ECAC DIII South Defensive Player of the Week in 2017. Through 17 games the junior caused 62 turnovers, collected 96 groundballs while also recording 77 points on 56 goals and 21 assists.

LaRochelle garnered the ECAC Rookie of the Year honor after being named the ORLC Newcomer of the Year. She is only the second W&J President to receive this honor and the first since 2015. LaRochelle also collected ORLC Offensive Player of the Week and ECAC DIII South Rookie of the Week honors this season. Her 62 goals are second in the league and one shy of the W&J single-season mark. The freshman is third in total points (79, second in W&J single-season history) and ninth with 17 assists. Her goals are 31st in Division II, while her point total put her 53rd.

Muhlenberg College head coach Kristenx Stuckel led the Mules to a 13-4 finish. She was named the Centennial Conference Coach of the Year after the team tied the school record for wins in a season and fewest losses in a season. Stuckel coached her team to another school record for longest winning streak during a season (8 games) and outscored opponents 241-155. This is the fourth straight season the Mules have scored at least 200 goals.
