Savar, Schwind, Shedlock Spotlight DIII South Softball Awards and All-Stars
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2017 Division III South Softball major award recipients and All-ECAC selections.
Lindsay Savar from Cabrini University was tabbed ECAC Player of the Year. Pitcher of the Year goes to Kylee Schwind from Arcadia University. Alyssa Shedlock from Juniata College was voted Rookie of the Year and Frostburg State University Head Coach Wes Landrum was named Coach of the Year.
Savar takes ECAC Player of the Year after being named to the All-East Region Third Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She was a four-time All-Colonial States Athletic Conference honoree and capped her career as the CSAC Player of the Year. The senior hit .354 and led the Cavaliers with 13 home runs and 35 RBIs. Savar posted 12 games with multiple hits, including seven three-hit outings. She also posted six games with at least three RBIs as well as four multi-home run occasions. The senior broke two Cabrini records, home runs in a season (13) and home runs in a career (29). Her 13 home runs ranked sixth in Division III, while her 0.32 home runs per game ranked 10th.

Schwind claims Pitcher of the Year after earning the same award in the MAC Commonwealth, becoming the Conference’s first-ever pitcher of the year. She held opponents to a .211 batting average en route to a 14-8 record. Schwind held a 1.98 ERA over 134.1 innings pitched while striking out 86. Her strikeout total ranked third in the MAC Commonwealth. Schwind’s rookie campaign saw 21 starts and 16 complete games.
Shedlock enjoyed an impressive freshman campaign for Juniata and was the first ever Eagle to be named the Landmark Rookie of the Year. She started 39 of Juniata’s 40 games collecting a .387 batting average coming on 41 hits, 10 of which were doubles, three triples, and two home runs. In 106 at bats, Shedlock only struck out a mere five times while knocking in 27 runs.
Frostburg State Head Coach Wes Landrum is named ECAC Coach of the Year after receiving the same award in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). The 12th-year head coach guided the Bobcats to a 24-15 overall record, including the second seed in the CAC Tournament. Since joining the league prior to the 2011 season, Landrum has yet to miss a CAC Tournament. He has coached four student-athletes to All-CAC recognition in addition to one First Team all-Atlantic Region selection. Landrum is just one win shy of collecting his 300th-career win.
