ECAC Announces Corvias Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week for the week ending April 30.
DIVISION II
Offensive Player of the Week
Leilani King – Gannon University, Jr.
King recorded six goals, three assists, nine points, 17 draw controls and six ground balls during a pair of matches against Edinboro and Millersville. She began last week with four goals, two assists, six points, 11 draw controls and three ground balls during an 11-5 victory against Edinboro. The junior scored back-to-back unassisted goals to give Gannon an early 3-0 lead. King recorded at least six points in a match for the eighth time this season, followed by two goals, one assist, three points, six draw controls and three ground balls during the regular-season finale at Millersville.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jillian Rocco – Mercy College, Sr., GK
Rocco went 2-0 in net with a 6.00 goals against average and 52.6 save percentage in 90 minutes of action. The senior made nine saves with just seven goals allowed in Mercy's win at Molloy.
Rookie of the Week
Brittani Sergio – Mercy College, Fr., M
Sergio had six points on five goals and an assist with two ground balls, three draw controls and one caused turnover. The freshman opened the week with three goals and an assist in the win at Bridgeport. The midfielder ended the week with two goals in the Mavericks win at Molloy.
DIVISION III – NORTH
Offensive Player of the Week
Kelly Wall – College at Brockport, Sr., MF
Wall led the Golden Eagles in a record-breaking week, picking up a pair of SUNYAC wins and securing the No. 1 seed and the right to host their first-ever SUNYAC Conference Tournament. Brockport opened the week with a strong 16-11 win over No. 9/18 SUNY Cortland, a first in program history. The senior wracked up seven points in the win, setting the mark for goals in the Brockport record books with her five scores. Wall added two assists, three ground balls, three draw control wins and two caused turnovers for a well-rounded performance. The Clifton Park, New York native continued her strong week, helping lead the Green and Gold past SUNY New Paltz, 20-2. Wall added four points in the win, with three goals and an assist, while also scooping up four ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control. On the week, she averaged four goals per game, 1.5 assists per contest, 3.5 ground balls a contest, 1.5 caused turnovers and two draws a contest. She currently rests atop the Brockport leader board with 175 career goals and is in second in career points with 261.
Defensive Player of the Week
Cassandra Minerd – College at Brockport, Sr., D
Minerd played a key role in Brockport’s historic week, picking up a pair of SUNYAC wins and securing the No. 1 seed and the right to host their first ever SUNYAC Conference Tournament. Brockport opened the week with a strong 16-11 win over No. 9/18 SUNY Cortland, a first in program history. The senior wreaked havoc on the Cortland offense, accounting for four caused turnovers and wracking up seven draw control wins. Minerd added one ground ball on the day, and played a key role in holding the Red Dragons to 2.5 goals below their season average. In the lopsided win over New Paltz, she continued her strong play, adding two caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw controls while leading the Green and Gold defense that allowed only eight shots in the contest.
Rookie of the Week
Grace Gamache – Framingham State University, Fr., M
Gamache tallied 13 goals and three assists for 16 points with five ground balls, six draw controls in a 3-0 week for the Rams. She recorded three goals and an assist in the 12-7 win over Massachusetts Maritime and four goals and an assist in the win over MCLA to clinch the third seed in the MASCAC Tournament. Gamache also added six goals and an assist in the 17-8 win over Regis College that established a new school record for wins in a season.
DIVISION III – SOUTH
Offensive Player of the Week
Maggie Nelson – Saint Vincent College, Jr., M
Nelson finished Saint Vincent’s 3-0 week with 22 goals and 13 assists. The junior added 21 draw controls, eight ground balls and three caused turnovers. Nelson equaled her match high with nine goals in last Wednesday's 24-14 home win over Thiel. She has established a new program record for goals in a season with 79.
Defensive Player of the Week
Liz Stierle – Arcadia University, Jr., G
Stierle went 2-0 for the Knights while making 20 saves on 44 shots, and recording a 7.02 goals against average and a .625 save percentage. She only needed to make four saves on nine shots in 38 minutes of action in a 20-7 win over Immaculata. Stierle only allowed three of those seven goals. She then made 14 saves on 27 shots in a 12-6 win over Hood to cap the regular-season.
Rookie of the Week
Liz Bill – Moravian College, Fr., MF
Bill helped Moravian to a 1-1 record last week with nine goals, an assist, eight ground balls, nine draw controls and three caused turnovers. She had five goals, seven draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers in a 15-14 non-conference loss at Neumann University. Bill then had four goals, an assist, four ground balls and a pair draw controls in a 17-4 win at Goucher College to end the regular season with the Greyhounds' first-ever Landmark Conference victory.
