NYIT's Kistinger, Mercy's McPartland, Panther Pair Take Top Honors as ECAC Announces DII Men's Lacrosse All-ECAC Selections
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2017 Division II Men’s Lacrosse Awards and All-ECAC selections.
Will Kistinger from the New York Institute of Technology received the award for Offensive Player of the Year, while Adelphi University goalkeeper Brendan McDougal was voted ECAC Defensive Player of the Year. Tommy McPartland of Mercy College earned the honor for Rookie of the Year, while Adelphi’s Gordon Purdie claimed ECAC Coach of the Year to complete the major awards.
Kistinger capped his collegiate career with a strong senior season for NYIT, leading the Bears to the East Coast Conference (ECC) regular-season and tournament championships. The senior posted 56 points on 41 goals and 15 assists in 17 games, ranking second in the conference in goals scored, and finished his NYIT career ranked fifth in program history in career goals with 138. A 2016 First Team All-ECAC selection, this marks Kistinger’s first major accolade from the ECAC.
McDougal claims the award for ECAC Defensive Player of the Year after winning Northeast 10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. The sophomore posted a 14-3 overall mark during the regular season and NE10 tournament, and led the conference in save percentage (60.7 percent) and wins in NE10 play (10). His efforts helped the Panthers capture the NE10 regular-season title and earn a berth in the NCAA tournament. In addition to his ECAC honors, McDougal was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.
McPartland played a pivotal role in the Mercy offensive in his freshman campaign. The rookie compiled 50 points on 33 goals and 17 assists in 17 games played to lead all ECC rookies, and claimed the league’s Rookie of the Year award after helping the Mavericks reach the conference championship. McPartland earned recognition for his efforts throughout the season, earning ECAC Rookie of the Week distinction on five different occasions during the 2017 campaign.
Purdie led his Panthers squad to a 14-3 overall mark and a 10-1 showing in NE10 play. Under his guidance, eight Adelphi student-athletes earned a spot on All-NE10 teams, highlighted by the Goalkeeper of the Year award for McDougal and three first-team selections.
