Oswego's Hamilton Repeats as Player of the Year as ECAC Announces DIII North Baseball All-ECAC Selections
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2017 Division III North Baseball Awards and All-ECAC selections.
SUNY Oswego collected two of four major awards, with Eric Hamilton repeating as ECAC Player of the Year and Scott Landers receiving the award for Coach of the Year. Anthony Brophy of St. John Fisher College was voted the Pitcher of the Year, while Tyler Holzapfel of Misericordia University received the ECAC Rookie of the Year honor.
This marks Hamilton’s second ECAC Player of the Year and All-ECAC First Team selection in as many years. The third baseman led the Lakers offensively in 2017, batting .442 with 34 RBIs and four home runs in 36 games during the regular season. The senior ranked atop the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) in several offensive categories, including batting average, hits (61) and doubles (17), and also ranked second in runs scored with 36. In addition to his ECAC laurels, Hamilton was recently named New York Region Player of the Year by D3baseball.com.

Brophy had a dominant first season for St. John Fisher, going a perfect 9-0 with a 1.57 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 10 starts during the regular season and Empire 8 tournament. The freshman led the league in wins, and became just the second E8 player to win both E8 Pitcher and Rookie of the Year in the same year. Adding to his ECAC accolades, Brophy recently earned recognition as the D3baseball.com New York Region Rookie of the Year.
Holzapfel collects the award for top ECAC rookie after receiving the MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year award. The freshman batted .373 with 36 RBIs, four home runs and 31 runs scored in 42 games during the regular season and MAC Freedom tournament. The infielder started every game for the Cougars and proved to be one of the league’s most sure-handed first basemen, posting a .995 fielding percentage with just two errors in over 370 chances.
Landers’ honor for Coach of the Year comes after one of the most successful seasons in Oswego history. The Lakers went 28-8 (15-3 SUNYAC) during the regular season under his direction, earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III baseball tournament. With Landers at the helm, two Oswego players earned major SUNYAC awards at season’s end, with five Lakers earning All-SUNYAC honors. In addition to his ECAC honor, Landers was also recently named the New York Region Coach of the Year by D3baseball.com.
