RPI Controls Second Half En Route To Clayton Chapman Bowl Win

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - - RPI outscored St. John Fisher by two touchdowns in the second half to claim a 35-24 victory in the Clayton Chapman Bowl Saturday.

Ryan Whitney passed for three touchdowns as Jackson Cusack caught two touchdowns in the loss. It was part of a day that saw the Cardinal accumulate 398 yards of total offense.

RPI (8-3) jumped out to a 14-3 lead as Robbie Patterson hauled in a 3-yard touchdown reception and Cortez Garrett scooped a fumble and raced 36 yards for a score.

Behind Cusack’s two touchdown catches, St. John Fisher bounced back to a 17-14 lead at intermission.

The Red Hawks controlled the second half with a  37-yard touchdown run from Kayden White at the 12:38 mark of the third quarter before touchdown throws from Anthony DeMatto to Josh Young and RJ Encarnacion to give RPI a lead it would not relinquish.

Encarnacion’s touchdown catch with 2:57 to play in the contest and pushed the advantage to 35-17 with under three minutes to play.

The game’s final score of the day came when Jaylen Brantley capped an 11-play, 61-yard drive with a touchdown reception for St. John Fischer.

White finished with 128 rushing yards and a score with DeMatto completing 13-of-17 passes for 132 yards and three scores.

It was part of a big offensive day; White finished with 128 rushing yards on just 11 carries to aid an offensive unit that rushed for 185 yards.

The game was turnover plagued as both schools threw a pair of interceptions and St. John Fisher lost two fumbles

Garrett Conger and Colin Clark had interceptions in the loss with Griffin Kramer and Garrett having picks in the victory.

With the win, RPI finishes the season at 8-3 while St. John Fisher concludes with a 7-4 mark.
