Iona, Stony Brook in front after Day One of ECAC Winter Championships

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The 2025 ECAC Swimming and Diving Winter Championships got underway on Friday, with the Stony Brook women and the men of Iona leading the way after the first day of competition. The event is being hosted at the Nassau County Aquatics Center by Baruch College and will run through Sunday.
 
With a dozen events in the books, Iona (526.5) leads NJIT (519) on the men’s side, while Stony Brook (484.5) and Iona (452.5) sitting atop the leaderboard for the women.
 
The women’s 200 free relay was the first event of the weekend, with the Mount Saint Mary’s squad of Eve Phillips, Theodora Kanellopoulou, Madison Murphy and Christine Lazari taking first behind a time of 1:34.72. Adam Jozsa, Lucas Hancock, Parker Koenig and Austin Toland teamed up to help Mount Saint Mary’s weep the 200 free relays, narrowly holding off Iona and taking the men’s event behind a meet record mark of 1:20.54.
 
In the women’s 500 free, Carmen Del Aguila Martin finished atop the podium with a finals time of 4:51.64, more than eight full seconds ahead of second place. On the men’s side, Long Island’s Finn Drysdale came away with an event title, doing so with a time of 4:24.79.
 
LIU junior Lara Wielkiewicz (2:06.10) picked up the women’s 200 IM crown, edging Stony Brook freshman Elaine Liu (2:06.12) in a photo finish. The men’s race was tightly contested, as well, with Mount Saint Mary’s freshman Todo Godpodiniv narrowly defeating a pair of Iona teammates with a time of 1:49.21.
 
Gabriela Lima (23.66) of LIU claimed victory in the women’s 50 free as one of six individuals to record a time under 24.00. Nick Patino of Iona (20.17) held off Adelphi’s Valerii Pidhoretskyy (20.21) in the men’s race, while Parker (20.39) rounded out the top three.
 
Mount Saint Mary’s grabbed the women’s 400 medley relay crown, with Hanna Aggen, Christine Lazari, Del Aguila Martin and Eve Phillips teaming up for a finals time of 3:48.18. The Iona group of Kieran Egan, Max Buchen, Noah Giunta and Nate Wales set a meet record on the men’s side, finishing in 3:14.40.
 
Sacred Heart swept the top three in the women’s one-meter dive, with freshman Ryleigh Mahoney (283.35) winning the event ahead of teammates Sinclair Yadao (261.25) and Phifey Boyers (249.20). In the men’s three-meter, Iona teammates Joel Picard (231.70) and Dylan Riccio (229.85) took home first and second, followed by Adelphi’s Tyler Romero (221.65).
