ECAC to Partner with Empire Collegiate Hockey Conference to Support Club Hockey
Danbury, CT - The ECAC is thrilled to be partnering with the Empire Collegiate Hockey Conference and AAU Hockey generally to provide organization, competitive structure and branding opportunities for non varsity intercollegiate club hockey programs. The Agreement, set to take effect in the 2025-26 academic year, is initially with the schools in the Empire Conference, but will likely expand to many other non varsity intercollegiate club hockey schools, teams, conferences and associations.
“This type of collaboration fits our mission perfectly,” said ECAC CEO/Commissioner Dan Coonan. “The ECAC exists to enhance the experience of student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics, and provide great value for member schools and programs wherever and however we can. We look forward to doing precisely that with this partnership with the Empire Collegiate Hockey Conference and AAU Hockey schools.”
The ECAC conducted an All-Members meeting in 2018 at which time the membership amended its Constitution to pave the way for the ECAC to delve into non NCAA and non varsity intercollegiate competition. That amendment paved the way for the ECAC to establish ECAC Esports, which now includes over 320 member colleges and universities nationwide. Club hockey is its latest foray into intercollegiate competition outside of the NCAA.
