Seagulls down NJCU to punch ticket to ECAC Championship
JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The ECAC Men’s Basketball Tournament continued on Sunday afternoon, with #2 Salisbury holding on to defeat NJCU 69-65. Jordan Oates turned in an impressive performance for the Seagulls, leading all scorers with 24 points while collecting a game-high 13 rebounds to round out his 20th double-double of the season.
NJCU connected on 50% from the field in the first half, carrying a slim 32-30 edge into the locker room at the intermission. Salisbury flipped the script over the final 20 minutes, combining a 58% effort from the floor with a 100% mark from both three-point range and the charity stripe.
Oates became the second Seagull in as many days to lead both teams in scoring, while teammates Aidan Camper and Kedrick Frink adding 16 and 11 respectively. Frink ended his day an assist shy of his own double-double, handing out a game-high nine assists without turning the ball over.
For NJCU, Avante Gilbert led the way with 17 points, with Jaheim Lewis and Hakeem Wilson pouring in a dozen apiece. Gilbert and Raymond Ezike each picked up three blocks, with the former adding six boards and three steals, as well.
Salisbury dominated the glass, outrebounding their guests 39-21 for the day, but NJCU won the turnover battle by a margin of 16-9.
Salisbury is slated to take on the winner of #1 Virginia Wesleyan and #5 McDaniel in the Championship on Sunday afternoon. To view the Tournament Central homepage, please click
