KEENE, N.H. - - A potential game-tying 3-pointer by McDaniel was no good as Rutgers Camden posted a 71-68 men’s basketball victory in the opening round of the ECAC Tournament at Spalding Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

Makai Crawford sank a pair of free throws with 27 seconds to play to help the Scarlet Raptors hold off the Green Terror.

Cameron Downs turned in a monstrous performance in the win. Downs made 13-of-17 field goal attempts en route to a game-high 36 points.

Downs’ strong shooting performance was part of a 60.5 percent shooting effort for a Rutgers Camden squad that made 11 shots from beyond the arc.

McDaniel shot 50 percent from the floor but was unable to overcome the long-range efforts of the Raptors.

David Kearny scored 27 points while Ashenafi Stuart (13) and Ryan Shaffer (11) also finished in double figure scoring in the loss.

Eric Benjamin made a trio of 3-pointers as part of a 13-point scoring effort for the winners who advance to face Keene State Sunday. Benjamin’s final triple came with under 90 seconds to play which extended the Rutgers Camden lead to 69-65.
