La Salle Sweeps ECAC IC4A Cross Country Championships

La Salle's Jenna Darcy Wins ECAC Individual Title while Penn State's Chris Foster Captures IC4A Race

The Bronx, NY - The La Salle University Cross Country teams finished their seasons in blazing fashion as they posted a pair of first-place finishes at the ECAC IC4A Cross Country Championships at Van Courtlandt Park in the Bronx. It was only the third time in the history of the event that any school has accomplished a sweep.

La Salle's Jenna Darcy ended her career in storybook fashion - with the entire field trailing her. Her 5k time of 17:48 was good enough for the Individual Championship. Boston College junior Laurel Burdick (17:50) finished second while LaSalle's sophomore Rachel Papin (17:53)finished three second behind in third place.

Every second mattered as the Explorers (68) beat Yale (70) by only two points. Other top finishers in order were Cornell (78), William and Mary (90), Georgetown (112) and Boston College (174).

Winning the individual men's race was Penn State senior Chris Foster who crossed the finish line in 24:55. Casey Moriarty, a senior from Yale, and winner of the 2003 race, finished in second place in a time of 25:00.

The La Salle men's squad was led by the trio of Tim Carroll, Ryan Fennelly and Sean Quigley who finished 9th, 10th, and 11th, respectively. The squad tallied 56 points, winning by a total of 31 points. William and Mary finished second with 87 points, followed by Duquesne (109), Penn State (132), James Madison (203) and Boston College (218).
