Amherst Captures 2005 ECAC Division III Women's Cross Country Championship

New London, Conn. - Amherst College won the ECAC Division III Women's Cross Country Championship held at Harkness State Park on Saturday, November 5.  
Amherst College placed four of the top 17 finishers at winning the women's championship with a score of 71 points. Freshman Elise Tropiano and Meg Ray paced the Jeffs to the victory, running eighth and 10 with respective times of 22:52 and 23:01 on the 6k course.


Tufts University finished second with 73 points. Williams College (111), Middlebury (130) and Coast Guard (177) made up the top five teams  in the field of 46.

Springfield College senior Meg Young won the individual crown with a time of 21:46. Coast Guard's Joellen Arons finished second (22:24) while Southern Maine's Sara Marzouk finished third overall (22:38).

Conn College freshman Allison Bell (Far Hills, N.J.) led the hosts to an eighth place score of 222 points, the highest finish in program history at an ECAC Championship. Bell cruised to the finish line in 23:42 en route to a 33rd place performance for CC. Rebecca Webber (Cranston, R.I.) was 48th with a time of 24:08 for the Camels. Junior Brenna Muller (Guilford, Conn.) was 50th and freshman Caitrin Herdic (Champlain, N.Y.) finished 51st with a time of 24:11.
