ECAC Announces 2010 Division III New England Mens Lacrosse All-Stars
CAPE COD, Mass. – Tufts University junior attacker D.J. Hessler is the 2010 ECAC Division III New England Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year. Hessler had 83 points on the season with 35 goals and 48 assists. Four of those goals were gamewinners, five were man-up opportunities, and two were man-down goals. He also collected 41 ground balls for the Jumbos.
Eric Hagarty of Endicott College has been honored as the 2010 ECAC Division III New England Defensive Player of the Year. Hagarty, a senior goalkeeper, had an outstanding season, posting a 14-8 record. He allowed149 goals for a goals against average of 7.85. His 198 saves on 566 shots faced gave him a saves percentage of .571.
Ian Deveau of Colby was selected as the 2010 ECAC Division III New England Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year. The freshman midfielder had 14 goals and 21 assists on the season, giving him 35 points. He also picked up ten groundballs.
Two student-athletes are joining Hessler as ECAC first team attackers. Whit McCarthy had a solid season for Colby, scoring 38 goals and dishing out 11 assists. Seven of those goals were from man-up opportunities. The senior also recorded 21 ground balls. Griffin Meehan from Keene State was also selected after tallying 105 points on the season. The sophomore scored 69 goals on the season, including three gamewinners, eight man-up goals, and three man-down goals. He also dished out 36 assists and scooped up 30 groundballs.
In the midfield on the ECAC first team is Owen Smith from Bowdoin. Smith netted 22 goals and dished out six assists, giving him 28 points on the season. The junior also recorded 21 groundballs this year. Also joining the team is Eric Vasil from Eastern Connecticut State. Vasil scored nine goals and gave out eight assists. The junior won 80.7 percent of his faceoffs attempts in eight conference games and he also picked up an impressive 226 groundballs. Finalizing the group is Brad Lipkvich of Gordon. The senior had 43 points on the season with 35 goals and eight assists. He picked up 14 ground balls and caused four turnovers.
On the ECAC first team defensive unit is Gordon’s Stuart Knechtle. Knechtle helped the Fighting Scots defense by causing 19 turnovers and picking up 172 ground balls. He helped Gordon end the season with a 10-5 record. Also joining the team is Eytan Saperstein from Tufts. The senior helped the Jumbos advance to the Division III championship game by starting every game and collecting 81 ground balls. He also scored one goal and assisted on two. Finalizing the grounp is Andrew D’Ambrosio from Williams. The senior played in every game for the Ephs, collecting 42 groundballs and causing eight turnovers.
Colby College’s Craig Bunker has been named as the ECAC All-Star first team specialist. The junior faceoff specialist won 212-of-293 faceoffs, earning a 72.4 faceoff win percentage. Bunker also scooped up 121 groundballs and recorded five points on two goals and three assists.
Earning ECAC first team goalkeeper honors is ECAC Division III New England Defensive Player of the Year, Eric Hagarty.

About the ECAC®
The ECAC is the nation's largest athletic and the only
multi-divisional conference with approximately 300 Divisions I, II,
and III colleges and universities from Maine to North Carolina and
