Men's Track and Field (for the week ending April 5, 2009)


Division I


Track Athlete of the Week

Phil Leineweber - Liberty University
Senior, New Freedom, Pa.

Leineweber posted four top-four finishes and qualified for the IC4A Championship in three events at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational.  He claimed first in the 400-meter and qualified for the IC4A with a time of 48.08.  His other two IC4A qualifying marks came in the 200-meter (21.73) and the 4x100 relay (41.68).


Co-Field Athletes of the Week

Luke Schoen - University at Albany
Senior, Bohemia, N.Y.

Schoen won the pole vault at the Duke Asics Invitational and qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championship by clearing a height of 17-6.5 feet.  The mark sets a personal best and school record, topping his previous best of 17-5 feet.

Matt DiBuono - Fordham University
Senior, New Rochelle, N.Y.

DiBuono broke the school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 206-2 feet at the Colonial Relays, finishing first in the event and qualifying him for the IC4A and NCAA Championships.  The senior broke the previous record of 202 feet which he set last week. 



Division II


Track Athlete of the Week

Torrey Price - Stonehill College
Senior, Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.

Price won the 100-meter in a time of 10.99 seconds and helped the 4x100 relay team also claim top honors at the Skyhawk Invitational.  He also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash.



Field Athlete of the Week

Jeremy Chapline - The College of Saint Rose
Junior, Queensbury, N.Y.

Chapline swept all three throwing events at the Continental Invitational at Hamilton College last week.  He registered tosses of 40.48 meters in the hammer throw, 13.20 meters in the shot put, and 36.15 meters in the discus to claim first in all three events.



Division III


Track Athlete of the Week

Jesse Schneider - New York University
Senior, Delhi, N.Y.

Schneider topped the field of 28 in the 10,000-meter race at the Penn Invitational last week.  In his first outdoor race of that distance this year and one with few Division III runners, he crossed the line first in a time of 30:22.02.


Field Athlete of the Week

Tyler Merchant - Westfield State College
Junior, Gardner, Mass.

Merchant provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship in the javelin with a throw of 190-3 feet at the Coast Guard Invitational.  The mark put him tops in the event.
