ECAC Announces 2010 Division III New England Softball Major Awards and All-Stars
CAPE COD, Mass. – Junior catcher Amanda Frederick of the United States Coast Guard Academy, has been named 2010 ECAC Division III New England Softball Player of the Year. Frederick helped lead her team to an NCAA tournament berth, batting .483 with nine home runs. Frederick drove in 51 runs, while scoring 41 of her own. Frederick was also a force behind the plate, making just two errors in 401 chances.
Eastern Connecticut State’s Molly Rathbun was named ECAC Division III New England Pitcher of the Year. Rathbun is 30-2 with a 0.75 ERA and has also tossed two no-hitters. She struck out 305 batters in 205 innings pitched. Rathbun leads Division III in ERA, shutouts, and fewest hits per seven innings (2.95). She is fourth in wins and fifth in strikeouts per seven innings (11.0) and total strikeouts.
Rivier College’s Taylor Cournoyer was named 2010 ECAC Division III New England Rookie of the Year. Cournoyer led Rivier with a .486 batting average and 49 RBIs. Cournoyer had 68 hits on the season, 23 of them for extra bases.
Ninth-year head coach Diana Pepin of Eastern Connecticut State was named Coach of the Year after leading her team to an overall record of 39-6-1 and an NCAA Championship berth. She led the 12th ranked Warriors to a NCAA regional victory before losing in the NCAA Division III Softball Finals.
Joining Frederick and Cournoyer on the first team infield are Haley Chandler (Keene State), Emily Beinecke (Tufts), and Alicia Gardner (Westfield State). First team outfield selections are Bryn Worrilow (Springfield), Cedar Blazek (Williams) and Brittany Grimm (Brandeis). Katie Davis (Southern Maine) joins the first team as a utility player, and Luigina Facchini (Western Connecticut) was selected as a designated player. Joining Rathbun on the first team pitching staff is Hayley Feindel of Coast Guard.

About the ECAC
The ECAC is the nation’s largest athletic and the only
multi-divisional conference with approximately 300 Divisions I, II,
and III colleges and universities from Maine to North Carolina and
westerly to Illinois. Established in 1938, the ECAC, a non-profit
service organization, sponsors nearly 100 championships in 37
men’s and women’s sports, assigns more than 4,400
officials in 12 sports, administers nine affiliate sports
organizations and six playing leagues and recognizes more than
2,000 student-athletes through the public relations arm of the
conference. The ECAC serves as the primary conference for select
members in the sports of men’s and women’s ice hockey,
and men’s lacrosse.
