ECAC Announces Division III Women's Metro All-Stars

CAPE COD, Mass. – Senior guard Melissa Beyruti of Kean University has been chosen as the 2009-10 ECAC Division III Metro Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.  Beyruti has led the Cougars to a 28-1 record and an appearance to the NCAA tournament. Beyruti averaged 14.2 points and 2.4 rebounds. The NJAC Conference Player of the Year, Beyruti is named to the ECAC first team for the first time.

SUNY Old Westbury's Krystina Agard has been chosen as the 2009-10 ECAC Division III Metro Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year, with per-game averages of 23.2 points and 5.9 rebounds.  The Panthers’ guard was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year for her efforts.

Joining Beyruti on the ECAC first team are Kimberly Blakney of Farmingdale State University, BriAnna Lucas of William Paterson University, Tiffany Patrick from Kean University, and Monique Salmon from Baruch College.

Blakney, the Skyline Conference Player of the Year, led the Rams averaging 25.8 points and 12.3 rebounds per game during her final collegiate season. Lucas, joins the first team as she averaged 16.1 points and 3.0 rebounds, helping William Paterson gain a regional ranking. 

Patrick helped Kean to a NCAA tournament appearance by averaging a double-double with 12.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Finalizing the first team is Salmon, the CUNYAC Conference Player of the Year.  Salmon averaged 11.8 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Bearcats. She also leads all Metro candidates with 189 assists on the season. 

Five players were also selected to the ECAC second team: Krystina Agard from SUNY Old Westbury, Amanda Jennings of Rowan University, Kadisha Wickham representing York College, Ashley Straughn from City College of New York, and Shannon Sangster from Mount Saint Mary College.
