Championship Game Recap

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Tournament MVP Kennan Killeen scored 17 of her game-high 25 points in the second half to help lift Washington & Jefferson to a 78-70 win over Lebanon Valley in the championship game of the 2008 ECAC Women's Basketball South Region Tournament Sunday afternoon.

Killeen (left) was one of four Presidents (23-7) in double figures. Stephanie Smith hit for five three-pointer finishing with 17 points.

Suzie Noyes led the Dutchmen (24-6) with 20 points. Lori Lidlow chipped in 15 and Megan Bish came off the bench to add 11.

Leb Val battled back from a nine-point halftime deficit to take its first lead since early in the contest. Lidlow's jumper in the paint gave LVC a 54-48 edge with 12 minutes to play, but the Presidents came right back as Smith struck from downtown followed by a bucket from Jen Rodgers to cut the lead back to one.

Later, down five, Smith hit from beyond the arc and Killeen, who was 13-of-14 from the free throw line, hit two from the stripe with six minutes remaining to knot the game at 63-63.

Killeen then hit the go-ahead bucket on the next possession where W&J held off the Dutchmen in claiming their second ECAC South Championship.

The Presidents shot 51% for the game including a 62% stint in the first half. W&J also won the battle of the boards, 42-22. The Dutchmen committed just six turnovers, and would score 21 points off of 18 W&J mistakes.
