Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Jan. 24, 2012

Women’s Basketball Players of the Week (for the period ending 1/22/12)

 

Division I

Miriam McKenzie – Loyola University Maryland
Senior, Guard, Columbia, Md.

McKenzie had strong performances in a 1-1 week for the Greyhounds, averaging 20.5 points and 11.0 in those contests. The senior scored 16 points and collected 12 rebounds in a 70-62 setback to Marist College. She then highlighted her week with a career-high 25 points to go with 10 rebounds in a 59-45 victory over Manhattan.

 

Division II

Mallory Moore – Mansfield University of Pennsylvania
Senior, Guard, Beech Creek, Pa.

Moore collects her second consecutive ECAC Player of the Week honor after averaging 21.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals in a 1-1 week for Mansfield. The senior guard scored 24 points in a 75-84 loss to Bloomsburg University. She followed up that performance with an 18-point, 12-rebound effort in a tight 57-54 triumph over Cheyney University.

 

Division III – New England Region

Courtney Cirillo – Keene State College
Senior, Forward, Windsor Locks, Conn.

Cirillo had a record-setting week for the Keene State Owls, averaging 23 points and 15 rebounds per-game in two Little East Conference victories. She collected a double-double of 17 points and 17 boards in a victory over Plymouth State. Cirillo then set a Keene State single-game record going 17 for 17 from the free throw line in a 77-65 victory over UMass Dartmouth. She also collected 29 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

 

Division III – Metro Region

Kendra Johnson – Rutgers – Newark
Senior, Guard, Easthampton, N.J.

Johnson put on a scoring clinic after averaging 28.5 points alongside 5.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Scarlet Raiders. The senior led all scorers with 27 points and seven steals in a 67-56 victory over Ramapo College. She bested that performance with a 30-point, four-steal effort in an 80-70 defeat at Kean University.

 

Division III – Upstate Region

Meghan Fiore – Utica College
Junior, Forward, Epping, N.H.

Fiore averaged a double-double of 21.7 points and 12.0 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week for Utica. She tallied 24 points and brought down a career-high 19 rebounds in an 82-76 victory over Elmira College. Fiore scored 26 points and nine rebounds in a close 62-60 setback to Drew University as well as adding 15 points and nine rebounds in a 70-62 victory over Alfred University.

 

Division III – South Region

Maria Costanza – University of Pittsburgh at Bradford
Senior, Guard, Pittsburgh, Pa.

Costanza averaged 18.7 points per game last week on her way to becoming the eighth woman in Panther history to reach the 1,000 point plateau for her career. The senior guard highlighted her week with 20-point effort, including a career-high six 3-pointers in an 82-58 victory over Franciscan University of Steubenville. She also scored a team-high 15 points and six steals in a 54-43 triumph over Hilbert College and added 21 points in a 73-56 win over D’Youville College.
