Cornell University Claims 2011 ECAC Division I Women's Gymnastics Title
Providence, R.I. - Cornell University won their first ever ECAC Division I Women's Gymnastics Championship in front of a packed crowd at the Pizzitola Memorial Sports Center on the campus of Brown University. In an extremely tight competition, the Big Red took the title by just a mere five tenths of a point over second place finisher University of Pennsylvania.
Towson University, winners of the last six ECAC Championships, finished in third place with a score of 191.075.
Cornell would claim three out of the four individual events as Melanie Standridge took first on balance beam, McKenna Archer and Emily Santoro shared the vault title, and Maddie Pearsall and Lexi Schupp would do the same in the uneven parallel bars event.
2011 ECAC Athlete of the Year Dana Bonincontri from Penn claimed the All-Around title with a combined score of 38.850.
The top six finishers from each event earned All-ECAC honors for the 2011 event.
