Penn Captures 2012 ECAC Division I Women’s Gymnastics Title

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania edges Towson University 194.400 to 194.375 to win the 2012 ECAC Division I Women’s Gymnastics Championships at The Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. It is the Quakers third ECAC title and first since 2004.
Temple University earned third place with a total score of 192.450. Leading the way for the Owls was Katie Canning who earned gold in the all-around with a final score of 39.200. Towson’s Kacy Catanzaro scored a 9.975 on Vault to capture first place. Penn’s Kirsten Strausbaugh and Towson’s Catanzaro tied with scores of 9.850 to win the Uneven Parallel Bars.
Penn’s Strausbaugh and Temple’s Canning tied with scores of 9.875 to share gold on Floor Exercise. A four-way tie for first place was awarded in the Balance Beam with Penn’s Amber Woo, Cornell’s Melanie Standridge, Temple’s Canning and William & Mary’s Brandy Stover earning scores of 9.775.
ECAC student-athletes finishing in the top three in their respective event were named First Team All-ECAC while gymnasts claiming spots 4-6 were named to the second team. The full team can be found by clicking below:
