ECAC Announces 2012 Division I Women's Gymnastics Season Award Winners
PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - The ECAC announced its season award winners for the 2012 ECAC Division I Women's Gymnastics Championship after competition concluded on Saturday. Highlighting this year's winners were Towson University senior Kacy Catanzaro who earned Athlete of the Year honors and head coach Vicki Chliszczyk who was recognized as Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
Catanzaro earned ECAC Athlete of the Week four times this season while ranking first in the ECAC on the vault and beam and second in bars. The senior gymnast also earned the All-Around title an amazing six times this season.
Tigers head coach Vicki Chliszczyk was named Coach of the Year by her peers after guiding her squad to a 20-5 overall record and recording a 193.855 RQS.
Assistant Coach of the Year honors went to College of William & Mary assistant Tim Rivera who was instrumental in the Tribe's season which found them ranked third amongst ECAC competition.
The ECAC also recognized the top freshman and specialist of the 2012 season as Morgan Traina from Yale University earned Rookie of the Year honors, and Melanie Standridge of Cornell University was named Specialist of the Year.
Traina was named ECAC Rookie of the Week three times and was the top freshman gymnast in three of four events. Standridge, a senior, is a true specialist only competing on the beam event. She ranked number one in the ECAC all season on the event while compiling a career best 9.875 two times.
Student-athletes excelling in the classroom and in competition were named ECAC Scholar-Athletes of the Year. These four student-athletes earned 3.5 GPA while standing out amongst the best gymnasts in the ECAC:
McKenna Archer, Cornell University
Tiffany Chen, Cornell University
Katie Goddard, Brown University
Stephanie Goldstein, Yale University
The ECAC also named its annual All-Academic team which is comprised of student-athletes earning a 3.2 cumulative GPA or higher. Click below for the entire team:
