Week 5: William & Marys Long and Penns Rosen Earn Co-ECAC Division I Womens Gymnast of the Week
Division I
Co-Gymnast of the Week
Marissa Rosen, University of Pennsylvania
Sophomore, Annandale, Va.
Scores from the week:
VT: 9.575 UB: 9.60 BB: 9.575 FX: 9.675 AA: 38.425
Rosen won her third all-around title of 2008 this weekend in a home meet against Ursinus, Wilson and West Chester by scoring a 38.425. She again nailed four out of four routines which all counted toward the overall team score. On vault, she placed third overall with a 9.575. On bars, she tied for first place overall with a 9.60. On beam, she tied for second with a 9.575 and floor she took first place for the fourth meet this season. Marissa had a deduction for going out of bounds on her floor routine, but she tried a new tumbling pass for the first time in her collegiate career. Her first pass is a full twisting double back which is one of the most difficult tumbling passes in gymnastics. She landed it with ease, except for taking too big of a step back. She quickly collected herself and rocked the rest of her routine. Rosen continues to be an asset for the Quakers and is upgrading routines and looking forward to each meet as a new challenge and opportunity to help her team get to the top.

Island
Freshman, Great River, RI
Scores from the week:
VT: 9.575 UB: 9.65 BB:
9.60 FX: 9.725 AA:
38.55
Riportella scored a 38.55 in the all-around at our meet at Illinois State on Feb 8th. She notched five career highs in helping the Rams to their season high team score of 190.625. Just a freshman, Riportella is in the last fourth or fifth line-up spot on every event, and has handled that responsibility very well. She will be a big part of the success of the 2008 Rams, and her meet at Illinois State is an example of where this team is going.
Specialist of the Week
Danielle Lee, University of Rhode Island
Sophomore, Windsor Locks, Conn.
Scores from the week:
BB: 9.725 FX: 9.6
Lee's scores of 9.725 on beam, and 9.6 on floor were vital to the Rams season high score of 190.625 at Illinois State last Friday night. Both scores were also career highs for the sophomore. Serving as the team anchor on beam, and the fourth gymnast up on floor, Lee's consistency and strong gymnastics have been great examples for the team to follow in the 2008 season.
Coach's Choice
Gabriella Sanguineti, Cornell University
Freshman, San Juan, Puerto Rico
Score from the week:
UB: 9.65
Sanguineti suffered a major concussion which kept her completely out of gymnastics for the eight weeks before winter break. In the first meet of her collegiate gymnastics career, she scored a 9.65 on bars to lead the Big Red to a team season high event score of 47.9, and a season high overall score of 190.2.
