Week 9: ECAC Gymnast of the Week
Division I
Tri-Gymnast of the Week
Ananda Fraser, University of Rhode Island
Sophomore, Diego Martin, Trinidad
Scores from the week:
VT: 9.7 UB: 9.475 BB: FX: 9.825
Two event titles (VT and FX), and a solid uneven bar routine made
for an amazing night for Fraser last Friday night for the Rams. At
what was the last Rams home meet ever, she set her career high on
floor, and tied her second highest vault score on the season.
On a night when bar scores were tight, Fraser was able to pull
though with one of the cleanest routines of the night.
Brigitte Kivisto, Yale University
Sophomore, Boca Raton, Fla.
Scores from the week:
VT: 9.5 UB: 9.425 BB: 9.75 FX: 9.625 AA: 38.30
Kivisto had her season high in the all around and tied her career high with a 38.30. She hit all four events and was the leader for the Yale team in a meet with MIT, SCSU, and University of Rhode Island. Due to an Achilles problem, she only vaults in competition. She is a real trooper and really cares about her contribution to the team effort.
Tricia Long, The College of William & Mary
Senior, Humble, Texas
Scores from the Week:
VT: 9.475 UB: 9.675 BB: 9.55 FX: 9.75 AA: 38.45
Once again Long was a top performer for William & Mary. Not only was she the top scorer on floor, but she also posted a career best 9.75 while performing her routine to no music due to some technical difficulty. Following floor, she went out and posted top scores in each of her following events. As usual, Long was solid again for William & Mary.
Rookie of the Week
Kerri Lavallee, Cornell University
Freshman, Spencer, MA
Scores from the week:
VT: 9.875 FX: 9.525
Lavallee set personal best scores on both floor and vault this
weekend helping the Big Red to a victory over Temple in
Philadelphia Coming off an ankle sprain, this was Kerri's
first meet where she was in the vaulting line up and she tied the
Cornell record at 9.875. The score of 9.875 was an ECAC high
on vault for the week.
Specialist of the Week
Jenn Stack, The College of William & Mary
Sophomore, Enfield, Conn.
Scores from the week:
VT: 9.675 UB: 9.725
Stack went out last night and posted two career bests not only
for herself, but also for William & Mary. On vault she
competed her Yurchenko full for the first time of her collegiate
career and was the top scorer for the Tribe. Stack than went out
and hit a solid bar routine posting the second highest score for
the tribe after having a rough go the past two weeks. She
went out and hit her sets proving to be one of William & Mary's
top performers of the week.
Co-Coach's Choice
Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt, Brown University
Sophomore, Venice, Calif.
Score from the week:
BB: 9.45
Kirkham-Lewitt was injured on her second event in the first meet of
our season this year. She fell from the uneven bars and
popped her elbow out. She has undergone extensive rehab and has was
not released to train gymnastics until this past week. With only a
few days of preparation and seeing that her team was in a tough
situation, she stepped in for our top performer Jen Sobuta who is
out with an injured ankle. She performed one of the best beam
routines of her career and earned Brown's second highest score on
that event. She showed great composure, handled the pressure
of competition and was a true team player.
Dani Riportella, University of Rhode
Island
Freshman, Great River, NY
Scores from the week:
VT: 9.65 UB: 9.70
Riportella was having the meet of her season before suffering a
knee injury that pulled her out of the competition. A solid
all-arounder all season, her tucked full vault was by far her best
of the season, for a second place finish, and when she stuck her
double layout on bars it brought to a close another "rock star"
routine, taking first place. While warming up beam,
Riportella suffered a knee injury that pulled her out of the rest
of the competition, taking her out of the all-around competition
for the first time this season.
